A little help?
Hello,
My name is Richard Graves, and I'm new to this forum. I recently started a new System Administrator position and found we are using a CLARiiON CX4-120 SAN.
(Actually they have two, one in use and one is apparently unused/empty).
I was not involved in the setup or design, and only have some paper documentation which covers intital install and configuration.
Everything seems to be running fine with the SAN at this time, however I must admit I don't know a lot about it or how it works, or what to do in case an issue arises with it.
I can access the device settings via EMC Unisphere (V 1.0.50.1.248) so that is already set up as well. (It seems that an administrative change in the settings replicates between the devices, but the devices aren't set up to replicate data for redundancy?)
Is there any documentation on the EMC2 website that will give me a better understanding of how this device works and etc?
Any certifications out there that would increase my understanding regarding these devices. (I had seen that Storage+ by COMPtia seemed to generically relate to this type of device, can anyone recommend it or another test?)
Mostly I'm hoping someone can point me to appropriate documentation for the CX4-120 and any other areas that might give me a better idea how to effectively administer it. (Or any suggested product downloads such as updated firmware or software updates that are useful)
Thanks for any help you can provide regarding this matter!
Richard

Welcome to the EMC family!
First, there is a ton of information available on powerlink.emc.com and support.emc.com. Here are a few "paths" on powerlink to navigate to for information.
Home > Products > Hardware/Platforms > CLARiiON Family > CLARiiON CX4-120
Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Hardware/Platforms Documentation > CLARiiON CX4 Series Systems
You will probably want to start with:
White Paper: Introduction to the EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series Featuring UltraFlex Technology
White Paper: EMC CLARiiON Storage System Fundamentals for Performance and Availability — Applied Best Practices
As for education, explore http://education.emc.com a little bit...there are a million offerings.
I hope this helps...and keep asking questions!

Hi Richard,
Welcome to EMC….
That was really a good input from Rupal and Jake.., In addition to this if you have any issues like Hardware failure(which needs to be replaced) etc.., you can always open a service request from Powerlink by selecting “Live Chat”(please follow the below mentioned steps to open a chat in powerlink) or you may also contact our CST (please find the CST contact details below)..

Everyone,
Thank you for your quick replies and for all the helpful information and direction! I took a look at all the links listed and it looks like I have a lot of reading to do to get familiar with these devices! Thankfully nothing is in trouble at this moment so I have some time!
I'm sure I will have more questions as time goes on but for now I feel fairly confident this will get me going in the right direction!
I took a look at the education site and it seems like they have an Associate level exam that might be useful for learning. Associate Level (E20-001) Information Storage and Management
Has anyone taken this and could provide feedback on it's usefulness? Just curious...
Again, thank you for all your help and information!
Richard

that class covers a lot of different concepts, technologies ..it's not EMC specific. If this is your first foray into storage industry then it's not a bad class to take, it will not teach you how to manage your Clariion.
