Backup Centera to tapes ?
Dears,
I would like to ask about the possibility to backup the Centera to tapes .
Which protocol is it used ? NDMP or somthings else ?
if it is possible, please advice for the proceture.
Actually we need this procedure because we have archived a huge amount of logs to Centera. Now, we would like to move these logs to tapes instate of disks.

There are couple tape backup software that are supposed to be able to handle this. You may wish to review this thread to help you.

The only problem choosing CBRM, the last version 2.2 was released in April 2008, and the software will go EOPS on 31st of Apr 2011!
It does not seem any successor product?
Anyone other information product?

Ahmad,
Although EMC CBRM is approaching End of Service Life, we have engaged with partners to provide same functionality.
Seven10’s StoreFirst Altus, is an EMC Select alternative to address your needs. Additional information is available in Powerlink under Home > Partners > EMC Global Alliances > ISV Partners > Seven10. See also attached Brochure.
Please ask your Sales Representative for additional information.

Hi all
Seven10 Storfirst ALTUS is the only product that would backup a Centera to tape. Our Product Replitect would simply keep the copy on the replica system for a configurable duration. In addition it allows to search trough metadata for recovery and allows to recover the object into a file.
The version to appear in April will also backup deleted objects to a filesystem where the tape backup solution of the customers choice can backup these files to tape.
Abmadurra: How did you archive your logs to Centera? Using an HSM solution like DiskXtender or Enterprise vault? A homegrown application?
Would you like to backup the objects and then delete on Centera? If this is a one time job you could also extract these objects into a filesystem, back it up and then delete on the filesystem an the Centera but making sure the backup is not overwritten.
If it were a continous process, I would use the application to delete older log files but put in place Replitect with the file backup option using an incremental forever backup methodology.
Best regards, Holger
