Symantec Antivirus for NAS says success, server_log says 'FAIL'?
Hi all,
hopefully this is something simple. I've just setup CAVA with Symantec AV for NAS. The documentation from EMC is great, I stepped through everything and it all seemed to go fine.
However when I test out the scanning (I just copy a file that's of one of the types in the mask), the CIFS volume seems to slow down, become unresponsive.
The server_viruschk -audit shows the av scan in progress. As does the SAV4NAS webconsole. After what seems like ages but is likely the RPCRequestTimeout of 240000, the CIFS volume returns to normal performance.
The Application logs on the AV server shows that SYNCScan scanned the file successfully. However the server_log server_x comes back with an error:
VC: 3: 32: Server 'IPAddr' returned error 'FAIL' when checking file '\usf2\test av - copy.docx'
So I'm guessing that SAV4NAS is not responding to the VNX after the file is scanned. Then the VC timesout and a FAIL event is logged.
Has anyone seen this before?
Regards,
Brett.

After a lot of trial and error I manged to get the AV scanning running successfully.
SAV for NAS hadn't updated it's AV definition files. It was using it's default definition files installed with the product.
Due to issues with LiveUpdate (which came down to the NetBackup client also installed on the server causing LiveUpdate to NOT download Scan Engine files http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH83823 ) I had to manually update the definition files.
Once the Scan Engine was using the new definitions, scanning is completed successfully on the VNX logs. And very quickly too.
Hope this helps out anyone else who comes across this issue.
Regards,
Brett.
