NDMP backup failure(99)

Hi all,

recently my NetBackup system fails when it has to backup a NDMP host. This is happening from some days ago while before it always worked. The NDMp host is a Celerra NS120.

Here is the error message appearing before the drive begins to write on the tape:

Error ndmpagent(pid=2468) NDMP_LOG_ERROR 0 SnapSure file system creation fails

Error ndmpagent(pid=2468) read from socket returned -1 10054 (An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

.)

Error ndmpagent(pid=2468) MOVER_HALTED unexpected reason = 4 (NDMP_MOVER_HALT_CONNECT_ERROR)

Error ndmpagent(pid=2468) NDMP backup failed, path = /EMCFS

Info bptm(pid=4376) EXITING with status 99 <----------

end writing; write time: 00:00:18

Info ndmpagent(pid=0) done. status: 99: NDMP backup failure

NDMP backup failure(99)

Here are the parameters I set in the backup policy:

SET DIRECT = y

SET HIST= y

SET OPTION = NT

SET TYPE = vbb

SET SNAPSURE = y

/EMCFS

Can someone help in understanding where is the problem?

How can I check the error logs in the Celerra system?

Thanks.

Fabio.

when savvol grows is size, it consumes space from the storage pool. If you try to create the snapshot manually and it fails, that could explain why your NDMP job fails.

How much space is left in the storage pool ?

You're raising this question because the parameters foresee doing a snapshot on the Celerra?

do you have enough space in the pool for Celerra to create a snapshot ? Try to create a snapshot of that file system manually.

I just tried, the error message now is different:

Error ndmpagent(pid=3980) NDMP_LOG_ERROR 0 Filesystem must be read-only

Error ndmpagent(pid=3980) NDMP_LOG_ERROR 0 Metadata creation failed for /EMCFS.

Error ndmpagent(pid=3980) NDMP backup failed, path = /EMCFS

Error bptm(pid=5840) none of the NDMP backups for client mitfs01 completed successfully

Info bptm(pid=5840) EXITING with status 99 <----------

end writing; write time: 00:00:14

Info ndmpagent(pid=0) done. status: 99: NDMP backup failure

snapshots consume space in savvol which is a hidden file system, it does consume space out of the storage pool

try to run the backup without specifying SET SNAPSURE

if the storage pool, used by this file system, has filled its maximum capacity it may give this kind of problem?

ok, so Netbackup expects a file to be read only ..which what snapshot is. So did you try to create snapshot manually ?

No, I didn't try to create a snapshot manually because I didn't yet understand where the snapshot will be stored. As you mentioned it should be stored int the savvol, this folder will increase the storage pool or the file ssytem space?

What do you mean by ...which what snapshat is.

Last question. Where can I found the NDMP username and password in the Celerra?
