Mount a replicated volume as read only?

I trying to find out of its possible to mount a volume that is being replicated (destination volume) in a read only state via cifs. Thanks.

Sure you can

Of course you cant use a replicated CIFS server for that since its VDM is readonly.

If you are using VDMs and want the replicated file system to be exported readonly then you need to share it from a CIFS server on the data mover level

For casual administrator access you can also just use C$ and browse into it

Yes, I just did it in my lab to make sure it works.  It won't allow you to write to it, but you can create a CIFS share from the replica fileystem.

Hope this helps

map to \\cifssever\c$ ..once there you will see the file system and subdirectories.

mgalloway,

Maybe of interest to you also might be the following KB article

emc216579: "How to conduct an application test on destination side without stopping replication sessions"

In summary, via a separate CIFS server on the destination and from a checkpoint of the target (read-only) filesystem, it lets you share it out also.  Uncertain of what you are trying to accomplish, but might be worth considering this well-written detailed step-by-step guide.  Then again, depending on what you need, it could be overkill (such as if you are simply trying to peek into it to verify that files are copying).
