Is backing up checkpoint better than the backing live shares.

what would be the prefered way to backup when backing up Cifs share through NDMP over IP using Netbackup.

Is  backing up the live shares easier comapared to creating a checkpoint and then getting those backedup. What are points i can highlight in order to convince the backup guy have the point in time copies  backedup rather than following the traditional way.

**I have a clear  understanding of how ckpt works but when compared to backing the shares directly .How could this prove benificial. Also what are the bottlenecks . Just a reminder it is NDMP over IP

pointers are welcome..

thanks

when you are backing up from a checkpoint, you are backing up a consistent "view" of the file system, this is the way that file system looked at say 8pm. If you are not using checkpoints, as your backups are running, data underneath is changing because it's a live file system and people are making changes.
