VMware Image Backup Status

Dear all,

We are implementing VMware Image Backup over the WAN using Avamar 7 Virtual Edition.

The virtual machines are already imported for the initial backup.

Is it possible to check from the job lobs if the local pre-seeded files are actually being used?

Is it also possible to check if CBT is actually being used?

Thanks!

check the activity monitor -

Progress Bytes - is how much it looked at

New Bytes is what it actually found it did not have and had to send.

Hey,

As you may know if you enabled CBT from VMware, when you perform VMware Image backup, the CBT will take effect. If changed block tracking is not enabled, each virtual machine filesystem image must be fully processed for each backup.

So, you may need to compare the backup time to check whether the CBT is actually being used.

Hope this helps.

The easiest way I find to check if CBT is enabled for a VM is to use the Avamar VM import function.  It has a column to show if Changed Block is enabled or not.

Thank you both for your answers regarding the CBT.

How about the pre-seed data?

Is it possible to check that the data is not moved over the WAN and existing data is used?
