Factory disks configuration of Avamar ADS 3 GEN 3.3TB

Hi,

I am trying to rekickstart an old Avamar ADS 3 gen 3.3TB but got some error during the RedHat Linux install due to disks configuration.

What is the default factory configuration for the disks, partitions and raid on that Avamar ADS 3 GEN 3.3TB ?

For now, it is setup as Raid5 with only one partition of about 4,5TB using the 6x 1TB disks.

My error message is :

disk.maximize_partition (newp,constraint)

error: error: partition length of 9744948675 sectors exceeds the msdos-table-impose maximum of 4294967295

Ok, here is the correct default disk config :

RAID 5 Disk group with 6 disks

Create two LUNs:

  1. 1. Allocate 25,600 MB of storage space to the first LUN for system partitions.
  2. 2. Allocate the remaining storage space to the second LUN for backup data.
  3. 3. Disable the read ahead cache. If a disabled option is not available, use “adaptive.”
  4. 4. Check the stripe size:

For Dell R710, the stripe size is set to 64 KB.

If the RAID configuration is incorrect or missing, the node will have to go back to the factory to be re-imaged, I'm afraid. There is no supported field procedure for re-initializing the RAID configuration.

It is RAID 5 with 2 virtual disks, each of it has to be the same size.

I am not sure whats options you have to create the RAID group... are you a partner??

Yes I am, it should be good, I am creating 2 equal size partition right now. Will let you know how does it go.

When you start installing from the kickstart image, select g2x

do not forget about the OMSA, after you finish the OS installation.

guess I ll need a linux live cd to do that... no more OS on disks !

got 2 equal size partition now, but I still have an error when I go thru the RedHat Install.

disk.maximize_partition (newrp, constraint)

error: Error: partition length of 48638233335 sectors exceed the msdos-partition-table-imposed maximum of 4294967295

Should I reduce my partition size ???

You shoud use parted command on /dev/sdb and set the partition as gpt (mklabel gpt).

If the RAID is set up incorrectly and the kickstart is able to proceed somehow you may end up installing Avamar on a system that is set up incorrectly and end up with data loss or very bad performance.

I would strongly recommend you contact EMC support or EMC PS to get assistance on this.
