Delete the f_cache2.dat file?
Can I safely delete the f_cache2.dat file? My understanding is that it will be recreated during the next backup. I'm hoping it will be re-created at a slightly small size. I want to delete it because I have very little space left on an old server's hard drive. We are trying to get by until we can upgrade to new hardware.

The f_cache2.dat file is your file cache. Deleting it will be a temporary measure at best and will have a dramatic impact on backup performance (more than 95% of the performance gain for Avamar filesystem backups comes from the file cache). There is a way to limit the size of the cache but it's not very straightforward. It's also possible to move the file cache to another volume with more capacity, assuming there's one available. I'd recommend you open a service request so support can assist you with this.
