Data backup to Avamar .

Hello ,

Can someone help me in understanding how backup happen in this case, Assume no other backup data present and this is new Avamar.

All the client backup is configured such that it lands on data domain which is integrated with Avamar.(A Dataset is created to send the data to Data domain). Ex: 2 TB of client data sent to data domain

If I triggered a new on-demand backup for that particular backup client with target as Avamar, then the client will again starts backup all 2 TB to Avamar or only any changed data is sent to Avamar.

Thanks in advance.

In your case, if you have a client with backups on Data Domain, then you run an on-demand backup to the Avamar grid, the client sends all 2TB of its data to Avamar.  We've seen this in our environment, and have done this to "front load" backups to the grid.  We have certain production servers that backup to the Avamar grid, while the test VMs backup to the Data Domain.  Due to the commonality of data between test and production, when we have a major application upgrade coming to our PROD server, we run a backup of the TEST server to the Avamar grid, instead of to Data Domain.  When the next PROD backup runs with the new application version, the modified bytes sent appears very, very low.
