Change block tracking is it on or not
I know when you add a vm to Avamar you can select "enable change block tracking."
and I know when you make a policy group you can tell it "use change block tracking."
So I need some clarification on this.
"enable change block tracking" says to enable it for the client backup
? but does that mean all vm backups will use it? even if the dataset does not say use?
"use change block tracking" says to use it for the backup
? but does that mean it will use it for all vm backups in in the policy/group even if the client does not have it enabled when it was added?
Is there a way to see that enable change block tracking is checked or not for all vm's in Avamar - like some kind of report - with out having to edit the properties of each one?

"enable change block tracking" option will enable the change block for the Virtual Machine, this option changes the property of the Virtual Machine on the Vcenter.
"use change block tracking" option in the dataset tells Avamar to utilize the "change block" feature of Vmware during the backup.
Both the options needs to be enabled in order to perform CBT (Change block tracking) based backup.
You can download proxycp tool from the FTP to get the report
ProxyCP Download
Run the following command to find out if CBT is enabled/disabled
If you want to enable CBT on all your virtual machine you can run the following comand

So - one OR the other means NO it is not being used for the backup.
BOTH means YES it is being used for the backup.
did I get that correct?
and thanks for the command, I was able to find the ones that were not checked.

Yes, you got it right.
The first option "enable change block tracking" will change the setting of the Virtual Machine and Vmware will allow the backup software to perform Change block tracking based backup.
The second option "use change block tracking" tell the Backup Software to use Vmware's CBT feature while performing backup.

The link Amol put in above should work: ftp://avamar_ftp:anonymous@ftp.avamar.com/software/scripts/proxycp.jaranonymous@ftp.avamar.com/software/scripts/proxycp.jar
So username: avamar_ftp password: anonymous.
Note that you cannot browse the contents of the directories, so you have to use the direct link.
