Avamar Agent and McAfee Antivirus exclusion

Hello folks,

Looking for feedback on what you are doing with Antivirus configuration on systems where Avamar Agent is installed. Avamar for Windows guide recommends that avtar.exe is excluded from Antivirus so that backups being "processed" by avtar.exe are not scanned for viruses. In my shop we are using McAfee, i am curious what folks who use McAfee do to exclude avtar.exe . There are a couple of places inside of McAfee that could be used, ie:

3-21-2014 3-14-43 PM.bmp

Do i simply uncheck "Opened for backup"

3-21-2014 3-15-52 PM.bmp

or do i add the path to avtar.exe into here ?

What are you doing/recommending ?

Thank you

Hi,

we have McAfee and Avamar. You would need to add avtar.exe to the list of Low-Risk processes. This is documented in the Avamar for Windows Server guide (PN 300-013-354). I think this can be done at the individual client level or as a global setting. Another department is in charge of that. But we have not done this as we have had no performance issues, and Avamar works fine (>100 remote locations with at least 2 clients in each location). We get all our nightly backups done in the scheduled window.

Regards,

Steve

I am not in charge of it. sent them the info, they did the exclude.  So I have no idea how it was done.

(just hated seeing you sit here with no repsonse)
