Agents needed to backup SAP/oracle
It's a Monday and I'm already upset with avamar.....
As far as I can tell to backup SAP with a oracle back end I need to load up the following :--->
rpm -hi AvamarClient-linux-sles11-x86_64-6.1.102-47.rpm
rpm -hi AvamarSAP-linux-sles11-x86_64-6.1.102-47.rpm
Do I need to load up the Oracle Agent as well?
For SAP Backups to be successful does it need the SBT_TAPE library?
Thanks..............

Joe,
I do not claim to be an expert on this subject but have some limited experience with it from my past.
If you refer to the Avamar SAP guide you will find no mention of the need for the Oracle plug-in being required.
The Oracle plug-in requires the use of the SBT library for RMAN related backup and recovery functionality.
However, SAP BRTools is a SAP owned utility and these do not rely on Oracles RMAN/SBT combo.
They manipulate the Database files using the likes of alter database type commands to quiesce the DB or DB files into backup mode using manual Oracle commands.
Once the files are placed in a consistent state, the related DB files are then backed up using a standard file system backup which BRTools controls and tracks.
Hope this helps.
regards,
Adam
