x15 R2, whether to repair or not?
Hi, My grandnephew did something, but who knows. I replaced the battery, though afraid he may don't somethng to the MB? When I checked the number it said Latitude 530, though it is an Alienware. Does anyone know what Dells initial charge to determine the cost to fix it. Or, does anyone know where you might get a MB for it, the way it talks Dell doesn't replace MB's? So wouldn't make since sending it in. It is a high end laptop with 4 fans it must run pretty hot. Number is <To protect your privacy, all private information was removed from this public post. DELL-Admin>. I think they couldn't make them much smaller, and my eyes aren't what they use to be. Guess time to get the Magnifying light and attach it to the desk again lol thanks Bruce

The second digit in the private Service Tag was letter B, not number 8. Yes, hard to read.
You have the x15 R2 with 15 month warranty. Purchased October 2022. The warranty expired January 2024.
I am not sure if Dell out of warranty repair will have the 2022 motherboards in stock. The motherboard part number you need is DF19J.

Sounds like you just need to find a local computer shop that works on laptops also.

The x15 R2 is still a very powerful, gaming capable laptop. It's worth the effort to repair. However, for a motherboard replacement option, it is not. The reason is CPU, memory, graphics card are soldered on the motherboard. A board with i9-12900H, 32GB RAM, and RTX 3080 ti can cost a grand or more.
With all the main components are on the motherboard, the cost of a motherboard and labor will roughly be the same or more compare to the price of a whole working unit.
Current option, check with Parts People for repair estimate https://www.parts-people.com/motherboard-repair.htm?srsltid=AfmBOoriD4b2r-ylero-3F28RcuRFhtlIBlVTL2wSH_O3iI2sc5iJHcI

@Chino de Oro ,
1. Agreed. Hey yall, Google a DF19J motherboard and look at some close-up pictures. Notice the high-parts count. Notice it has about 35% more components than motherboards from 10 years ago, but now they are all 50% smaller. Think about that for a second.
2. Yeah "built like a phone" ... like most UltraBooks now-days. But on this one, looks like even the 32gb ram is soldered-in (like an Apple Mac).
@brucefl024b31 , I suggest you go download the PDF manual so you know what you are suggesting (contemplating doing your own "board swap"). First, very hard to pry-apart and they might even then tell you "don't pry it apart". Best case you still have to remove and re-install a very elaborate heat-sink assembly (which has to done perfectly with thermal-compound and all, or it will overheat while gaming).
3. @brucefl024b31 due to your location, probably a better idea. @Chino de Oro is correct. Sorry, I forgot about PartsPeople depot repairs.
And yeah, it's not likely "the power switch". If you have any "signs of life" when pressing it ... definitely not "the switch". I've never seen it ... not on a laptop that is only a few years old. IIRC, not on any laptop ever (and I've worked on ... about 30 in my life). Usually (now-days) modern computing devices like this don't "turn on" because they did a quick self-test and thought it best not to ... to prevent further damage.

@Tesla1856 Yes, thinks use to be easier. I think it may have had a power surge. Don't usually have trouble taking it apart. But, I will look at some reputable repair service to take a look at it.
Thanks for the assistance

@Tesla1856 Thanks, appreciate it, I know enough to get myself in about 1/4th of the trouble. Battery is ok, check the switch next. I have switched boards before. Not the funniest thing to do.
Closest place is best buy about 1.5 hours from here. Only about an 1.5 from the Canadian Northeast border so we don't have a lot to pick and choose from. Unless I can find a place with a "reasonable" fee for looking at it. Though, I will do that. If it hadn't been such an expensive machine I would not bother. Looks more like a power connector problem from the battery. Thanks

A new machine has some advantages such as a more powerful GPU, and DDR5 is also faster

It's a tough-call when an expensive luxury machine completely fails early. This was likely built as a $2500 high-end gaming laptop and it didn't even make it 5-years. Maybe even just sitting on a desk the whole time.
