x15 R2, WD19TBS, 240Hz monitor

Hi,

I am planning to get an Alienware x15 R2 with RTX 3070 Ti.

I already have D6000 dock but I am facing a lot of issues with Frequent High CPU Usage etc. I have got Samsung Odyssey G7 32" which supports up to 240Hz and its a QHD Model.

My Questions:

Does WD19TBS support QHD with 240Hz in Alienware X15 R2? As it supports only 144Hz in D6000 with XPS 15 9570, I want to ensure my new Laptop and Dock supports my monitor.

That is unknown by Dell. None of the Dell Docks (TB16/TB18DC/D6000/WD15/WD19/WD19S/WD19TB/WD19TBS/WD19DC/WD19DCS) were validated/tested with Alienware Laptops.

This is all conjecture at this point. No one can say 100% what will happen until you actually connect all three.

What about XPS 15 9570? if i get a WD19TBS, and connect with a 240hz monitor at QHD, will it work? all i need is higher refresh rates

Hi, I would like to say after doing some research the XPS 15 9570 would most likely work with the WD19TBS at QHD, the 240Hz I still have to do some research but I think you should be able to do so since its not a 4K signal but 1440p

Hi!

Thank you so much!

I will go ahead and order it now.. In Mean time, can you please complete your research and let me know? I would be really thankful for your kind help!

Also Please do let me know if its same with X15 R2! (I know for a fact that M15 R7 works with iGPU which doesnt allow G-Sync as well instead of DGPU)

Please do let me know about XPS 9570 & Alienware X15 R2 (3070Ti Model)

I will be connecting only 1 Monitor.

Could you specify what ports you would be using on the monitor? as these are what the connectors on the WD19TBS have:

  • Provides up to 130W of Power Delivery
  • Integrated Thunderbolt 3 Cable (2.6')
  • 1 x Thunderbolt 3 Port
  • 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Ports
  • 3 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A Ports
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0b | 2 x DisplayPort 1.4
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet Port
  • Supports up to Four Displays
  • Supports One 5K and Two 4K Displays
  • Windows, Mac, and Linux Compatible

That line One 5K and Two 4K displays makes me think that its possible.

I finished my research and concluded that you can't use the docks to charge the laptop but I found out you can use them to connect displays.

Hi,

1. I will be using separate charger for Laptop.

2. I will be using DP Port to connect to monitor. No Other USB C Ports will be used! May be one or two USD Type A.  And ONLY 1 Monitor (Samsung Odessy G7 32" 2560X1440 240Hz)

I hope this will give me a solid answer from you

That means, in Alienware X15 R2 (3070 and 2080Ti) and XPS 15 9570, both will run in 240hz?

Yes 100%. As displayport supports that.

So I got myself a WD22TB4 and it wasnt working 1440p @240HZ

I am not sure if its a limitation on Intel UHD 630.

But its running 240hz in 1080p.

Another BIG Problem is that, if i switch to 1440p with 144hz, whole laptop freezes and lags to death!

Will it be same on Alienware x15 R2 (3080 card)? Please advice as I am about to place order tomorrow, on my birthday!

The 3080 should improve performance but I don't get how setting it to a resolution of 1440p at 240hz doesn't work. Could you please send a screenshot of what connectors go to which graphics card in NVIDIA Control Panel? and did you check for any optional updates regarding those two in Windows settings?

Hi @yogesh03 !

The iGPU should be able to handle it as it says on intels website that the 12700H at minimum supports 7680 x 4320 at 60hz via DP (DisplayPort 1.4a) which the dock has and are you connecting the laptop to the dock via DP or just Type C and then DP to the monitor from the dock.

I highly apologize for the inconvenice.

Can you close the laptop and use the displays only?. I have a WD19TB and a X17 R2. I can connect two displays but when I close the laptop, the displays switch off. Are you aware of this issue?. Do you know how to solve it?
