x15 R1, new, battery is not functioning?

Hi,

I received last week an Alienware x15 R1 that seems to have no battery? When I disconnect the power adapter, it goes off. Tested with PowerShell and the report mention no battery installed? Also it seems also that the battery on my motherboard must be missing too (my CMOS I think).

Question is: I have three choices that has been offered to me 1- wait until the pieces are available (for now, they have no dates) 2- proceed with a replacement of the laptop (6-8 weeks minimum and not knowing what I will receive.) or 3- a refund (2-3 weeks)

I asked the customer care if I decide to keep the laptop (because I had a very good price) until reception of the pieces and finally, after a few months, they just don't know when they will be available, can I still get a total refund? The customer care keep sending me the 30 days rules that I know, but this is a particular case. Can someone tell me if you think I can still have a refund after a few months of waiting for pieces? Thanks in advance.

If you pass the 30 day mark, the return option will be gone.

I would reconsider the "parts" option if it comes with an indefinite  wait for parts.

The rest will depend on your time frame -- if you can't wait the two months, take the refund and re-order.

If you haven't already, the battery is relatively easy to access on this model (service manual link below).  Check to make sure it's there and fully connected to the system board.

And, for your info, I have to decide within the next five days...

The service manual mentions that the X15 does not have a realtime clock backup battery (aka a CMOS or reserve battery).  If the system never had a battery connected to it from the factory, that would explain the situation.

Reconnect the battery to the system board and charge it -- then observe its behavior to make sure the firmware settings are maintained.
