x14 R2, fans stuck on max, manufacturing mode

Hi, my fans are stuck on maximum (100) the moment my laptop is on. I’ve tried switching different performance modes, uninstalling Dell apps, restarting etc. Restarting does not stop the noise, only way to stop the noise is shutting down. Another issue that’s been happening that I don’t know if it’s unrelated is, upon boot up, a screen shows that it is in ‘Manufacturing mode’ and ‘service tag has not been programmed’. For some reason I think the BIOS has cleared my service tag. I’m trying to reach technical support but I cannot identify the service tag because the sticker on the back of my laptop has completely faded and the BIOS does not have my service tag. The email I used for purchasing/accessing the laptop also does not have my order listed for some reason so I have limited access to information and help. I have the email confirmation and invoice of the order from last year and I have also opened up the back of my laptop where I can find a bunch of numbers on the different components. My question is where can I find help? I cannot use my laptop with the issue above.

Hi, I don’t know if anyone will come upon this thread with the same problem but after days of struggle, I have obtained my service tag and fixed the problem. Because my service tag was missing in my BIOS and it has faded off the back of my laptop, I contacted order support. I got my service tag from order support, then entered it into BIOS upon boot up from f2. Then fans were still stuck on max, no more service tag errors, laptop was still stuck in manufacturing mode. After switching off manufacturing mode, everything has returned to normal. Fans are normal now.

Tldr; Obtain service tag from order support (not technical support), enter missing tag into BIOS, upon boot press specified keys to exit manufacturing mode and into normal running mode (Alt-F for me).

Thanks for posting the fix! For other users, when you contacted Order support customer service, did they end up searching in Dell tools for your original Dell Customer number, Dell order number, or email address used when ordering which then showed the tied x14 R2 Service Tag number?
