which Windows will OS Recovery Tools restore ? 10 or 11 ?

Alienware Area-51m

Alienware Area-51m

My laptop is Alienware Area-51m, 2019. It was installed with Windows 10 Pro when I bought it.

Now I have already upgraded to WIndows 11 Pro for over one year.

I wonder if I run OS Recovery Tools to restore my OS, which Windows it will restore ? Windows 11 or Windows 10?

Thanks.

I believe that recovery would be to factory state, which in your case was Windows 10.

You can accomplish the same thing, restoring to a previous good state, using drive imaging tools such as Acronis or Macrium Reflect. Such a tool would enable you to image your current state, your Windows 11 OS including all your installed applications, all your settings, your data, everything.

To me, that is far more useful than a factory state restore. Plus, you can store multiple drive images on a single external hard drive, allowing you to restore any one that you choose.

Some Dell models also have a Reset and update option, that apparently "updates the operating system to a version which is more current than the operating system installed at the Dell factory". I've never used that, so I don't know how that works.

It would have been helpful to provide that information in your first post.

I don't see that restoring to factory state or reinstalling Windows would fix your issue. Many Docker Desktop users report the same issue. Some fixed it by disabling "Automatically check for updates", exiting and restarting Docker Desktop.

The Docker Desktop development team thinks that this is related to this Windows issue: WSL complete freeze · Issue #8824 · microsoft/WSL · GitHub
They think that Microsoft will fix that issue in a future Windows Update. If that's the case, then you would want Windows to be fully updated and restoring to factory state or reinstalling would not help you.

Thank you for your information.

But my situation is , when I start Docker Desktop (v4.12), the "Power usage" of WMI Provider Host in Task Manager will become "Very high", which leads the fan work in high RPM (75% in ACC). And CPU temperature in ACC shows 90 C (sometime up to 100 C).

I have tried some approach  found with google but in vain.

So, I think maybe I should restore OS to factory status or re-install WIndows 11 Pro
