Quick Question for Alienware 18 Area-51 Laptop Users
Hi,
I have had multiple BSOD problems going into modern suspend, and hibernation, related to the graphic driver.
However, once I installed the latest Dell-approved driver NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-5060-5070-5070-Ti-5080-5090-Graphics_YJ7H0_WIN64_32.0.15.8195_A06, I got a BSOD every single time modern suspend was entered.
It would be very helpful if someone could try out modern suspend using that particular driver and let me know if it was possible. If this works for others, am thinking hardware problem.

@Baa-meh , I use Modern standby (S0) sleep daily as I usually just put the PC to sleep and don't shut it down. I don't use hibernate however. I've used the last few Dell NVIDIA drivers including the one you mentioned and the current one. It was months ago when I tried the drivers directly from the NVIDIA site. After my S0 issue and reading of constant issues with the latest NVIDIA drivers I just stick with the Dell latest even though it's usually outdated in comparison. I figure better to let Dell test it and sort out the bugs since this PC seems to be particularly finicky with video drivers.

The 18 Area-51 AA18250 Drivers & Downloads page shows 32.0.15.9190, A00 as the latest dated 12 Mar 2026.
I also see BIOS 2.1.2 was released on 16 Mar 2026. Assuming that you have installed this?

@DELL-ChrisM2 Thanks for the information.
I've not installed the latest versions you refer to yet. Thing is, since getting the laptop I've tried 4 different GC drivers and 3-4 bios upgrades. In all cases I kept getting BSODs during modern suspend, and to a lesser extent hibernation. The modsus BSODs occurred usually after 5-10 times. I found this unacceptable, since there are encrypted drives, and the possibility of data loss, which has happened.
That is why the driver in the OP was very interesting as the BSODs came every time. I thought this indicated a deeper problem with my machine, since surely Dell test modern suspend (this laptop is advertised as a desktop replacement). Do you know if they do actually test it?
In any case it would be useful to know if this affected all the laptops, in which case a replacement machine or motherboard will not help.

Might not be of help but the only time I had a issue with Modern S0 standby on the Alienware 18 Area 51 AA 18250 was when I installed a latest NVIDIA driver version from their website. The screen would not wake and the machine would then BSOD returning to normal after boot unless put to sleep again. Reinstalling the Dell factory driver resolved the issue. I'd suggest a clean install of 32.0.15.9190, A00 and see if that resolves it.

@FrancoDT Yes, thanks, I'm planning to try that - but given past experiences I'd be surprised if all the modsus problems went away.
If I could trouble you for one more reply, how often did you use modern suspend in general? Also, did you use it with the Dell-approved driver prior to the current one (NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-5060-5070-5070-Ti-5080-5090-Graphics_YJ7H0_WIN64_32.0.15.8195_A06)?
Thanks again.

@FrancoDT Thank you for letting me know that you got S0 to work with the driver in question. I've tried that driver on 2 clean installs, and both times it failed at every modern suspend. Apart from that, as mentioned, I got BSODs continually (not every time, but usually around every 5-10 S0's) over multiple Dell GC drivers. This leads me to believe there is a hardware problem.
FYI Dell do not check modern suspend during their GC driver testing, I can only think they don't bother because such BSODs should not happen if all other tests pass.
