m18 R2, where is 0x12B Final Microcode BIOS Fix from Intel for 13th/14th gen Intel CPUs?

Alienware m18 R2

Alienware m18 R2

Title says it all.  Where is the 0x12B final solution microcode from Intel for Dell systems with 13th/14th gen CPUs?  Even the mobile i9-14900HX chip in my M18 R2 has 0x129 released in September.... and by all accounts the VMIN shift issue as finally diagnosed IS part of all the chips because they are effectively the same problem in their microcode: "addresses elevated voltage requests by the processor during idle and/or light activity periods. ".  This was released on the 25th of September.... it's past time for the BIOS.

So, as of this writing on 11/26, Dell finally did see the error of their ways and released BIOS 1.90 marked interestingly as 10/4/24.  So despite the post by Dell-Chris M indicating Intel's saying mobile was not affected, after having done the first three fixes for mobile, the finally saw the light an released a BIOS for the chips which does incorporate the 0x12B fix and is confirmed through HWINFO for anyone who is curious.

Dell has not received any notifications from Intel that any mobile CPU were affected. This is why our article =

Hello,

As “docsteel” mentioned, a new microcode (Intel 0x12B microcode) has been released to address the malfunctioning of the Intel Core i9-14900HX processor.

I have installed the latest BIOS (BIOS date 08/16/2024, Version 1.8.0), which includes Microcode Update 129. Unfortunately, this update does not resolve the issues related to elevated voltage requests by the processor during light activity.

The Intel 0x12B microcode was released a month ago. When can we expect a BIOS update containing the 0x12B microcode for the Alienware m18 R2 laptop?

@Vanadiel Hi, I have installed the latest BIOS (BIOS date 08/16/2024, Version 1.8.0), which includes Microcode Update 129. Unfortunately, this is not the 12B microcode that solves the problem.

@Vanadiel

Motherboard BIOS is 1.8.0, CPU Microcode update according to HWINFO shows 129.

Several other vendors had updates out within like two days, so it's a little odd that Dell did up through the 129 update even for mobile processors using the same die then stopped short of implementing the fix that Intel has publicly declared fixes the core issue.  No reason I can think of we should not be getting what is supposedly a fix for the root cause if nothing else to ensure issues on a combined CPU/GPU motherboard don't happen in the future.

Since I know Dell is a startup with limited resources, I have provided the link to help you out: https://community.intel.com/t5/Blogs/Tech-Innovation/Client/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/post/1633239

Hello!  Your daily reminder to implement the final fix for the VMIN shift issue that Intel released on September 25th!  No other fix you released to date will take care of the issue completely, but you knew that.... right?

Hi it's that time again - your daily reminder to issue the 0x12B microcode final fix for the Intel 13th/14th gen CPU flaw that Intel publicized on September 25th.  Other vendors issued their fix already, where is ours?

Same question as docsteel - where is the BIOS update with the new microcode form Intel? It has been over a month since they released it.

I am sure Dell are not going to send me a replacement unit for free when my machine is irreversibly broken, because they themselves did not do their job.

And yet - you issued BIOS updates for all the other issues even though they said mobile wasn't affected AND it uses the same chip die?  That makes no sense.  You need to issue this update - give me ONE good reason not to?  So when say 2-3 years from now CPU-GPU-MB combos die, you WILL replace them due to a faulty processor when software shows matches the degradation correct?  Just so we are all on the same page here.
