m15 R3, exceeding 100°C on regular basis
Hello everyone,
I've noticed over the past few months that my laptop is running hotter. I then discovered that the Alienware FX temp gauge maxes out at 100°C so I downloaded HWInfo64 to verify the temperatures.
Just to establish a baseline, when I first received my Alienware laptop it would reach about 95°C while gaming (X-plane). I checked the CPU temp using HWiNFO while using X-plane and it reached a steady temp of 105°C. I checked again yesterday using the same scenario and it reached a steady temp of 107°C. Of course, performance is suffering. At time it can below 1k Mhz.
It seems to be getting gradually worse and I am wondering if I need to have my CPU repasted or something from Dell? This my 2nd Alienware laptop and I have never seen sustained temps of 107°C before.
Please do not respond with the usual 'trouble shooting' sheet Dell provides. I've already been through that and it doesn't really help.
Thoughts?
Thanks

Dell has reached out to me via pm and is arranging to have a tech come and put in a new heat sync.

Has this been the case since it was new, or did this heating issue develop more recently?

Hi @kdl9798 welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Dell prefers to use Intel CPU processors, but the Alienware m15 R3 10th Generation Intel Core is not as fast as its competition and Intel are losing their market share. Intel has publicly admitted their mistake and allow their CPUs to run up to a maximum of 100°C, but this sudden change did not allow for timely upgrade of OEM laptop cooling systems.
