17 R1, use 330w Power Adapter

I bought a refurb'd 17" R1that will be here in a couple days. It's coming with an AW 180w power adapter, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to use the AW 240w adapter.

My questio is - can I use an alienware 330w adapter that I have?

I've read that it won't matter as the laptop will only draw the power it needs.

I've also read that it does matter as the 330w adapter on a 240w laptop will cause the laptop to overheat and will damage components.

  So which is correct?

I can get a 240w adapter off amazon, but won't unless I need to.

Will the 330w power adapter from an alienware 18 work with an alienware 17" R1 that had a 240w power adapter, or should I get a 240w adapter for it?

As long as the plug fits the system, there is no harm in using a higher power adapter -- the system will only draw as much power as it needs from the adapter.
