Permanently stop Alienware Command Center from installing?

I have an alienware aw32 and I am getting really tired of Alienware Command Center installing on my PC automatically.

I've tried not having the USB cable plugged in which doesn't help

I've tried taking ownership and deleting the awcc folder within C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ which works for a time until there's a new version of control center released which then gets pushed out and windows installs it automatically

I've also tried disabling the option to download manufacturers hardware apps from within advanced system settings

In Win 11 is there any way to stop this from automatically installing?  It's like a virus at this point, continually installing when it is completely unwanted.

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share a quick update regarding the Alienware Command Center (AWCC) and its behavior on non-Alienware systems.

 What's the Issue?

Some users have noticed that AWCC installs automatically when connecting Alienware peripherals (like keyboards, mice, or monitors) to non-Alienware computers. This happens due to Windows Automatic Identification, which triggers the installation to support the connected device.

While this is expected behavior, we understand it can be surprising, especially if you're not using an Alienware system and didn’t intend to install the software.

What’s the Fix?

Starting with AWCC version 6.6.x.x, Dell has introduced a prompt that asks whether you want to install the application. This gives you more control and helps avoid unexpected installations.

Have you tried Revo Uninstaller?

AWCC is bloatware and if you have SA it makes things worse.  SA has superuser privilege.

you need to remove all Dell software and do a clean Win11 install only with MS installation media.

My PC isn't a dell, it's my own build using default win11 media.  The only Dell thing is my alienware monitor and awcc is getting automatically installed without any sort of input or authorization from me.  It is complete bloatware and insidious in that I remove it and it just comes back again and won't stop installing no matter what I try. I'm beginning to think the only solution is to not use an Alienware monitor at all in future as other vendors don't behave in such an untrustworthy and invasive way.

@randomnut It's a problem with Microsoft that keeps pushing Windows update that should not be pushed, like AWCC.

The only way I know about disabling it is to stop all AWCC and DELL related services in the service applet, and then after a reboot you will be able to delete the AWCC files manually.

If you uninstall AWCC it will just keep coming back, together with other Dell services. Making Windows think it's still installed by disabling the services rather than removing them, causes Microsoft to stop pushing them on you.

You can use a group policy to block it from reinstalling using the hardware ID of the Alienware software component device. See here for more information: How To Disable Specific Driver Updates In Windows 11/10

I am having this same issue...

non-dell system. I have a Alienware RGB keyboard and I only to change the color of my keyboard keys once..

then I uninstalled it afterwards.. my horror to find it keeps reinstalling it self every time there is a hard ware change or driver update.... or such...

I want this bloatware gone forever. its not ok DELL that you do this...

ie it just reinstalled itself less then a half hour ago...

I did uninstall it.. but like a zombie it keeps coming back.

Same problem here. Once again I've received a prompt to install ACC and I discover the install files have been silently downloaded and placed in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{60CD1006-96A7-49E9-AE81-5820F3BE4260}.

After I ignored two prompts to install ACC, it then silently removed that directory but left behind a log file that starts with:

3-13-2025[07:10:03 AM]: *** InstallShield suite engine (Unicode) started
3-13-2025[07:10:03 AM]: Engine: we're running from C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{60CD1006-96A7-49E9-AE81-5820F3BE4260}\_is774D.exe
3-13-2025[07:10:03 AM]: Engine: running with elevated privileges: yes
3-13-2025[07:10:03 AM]: Initializing engine...
3-13-2025[07:10:03 AM]: Engine: setup will run silent

This looks like the behaviour of malware from scammers.

DELL - stop forcing bloatware on to my machine.

EDIT - I just tried finding somewhere to write a complaint to but after several minutes gave up as Dell don't provide it or have hidden it really well. Typical corporate.

Having the same issue  as @Robalimon
I've tried everything to get this disease to stop infecting my machine to no avail. It keeps coming back. Just now I restarted my PC and found it trying to install itself again from TEMP. This is beyond insane and  at this point I feel the need to report this piece of software as malware.

 Thank you, this worked for me.

I did contact support twice about this - in particular because I can tell that AW components are continuously monitoring processes and this makes me feel uncomfortable (something about knowing which games you play). They responded that the software is required to the display to work properly (of course it is not). So frustrating. Anyway.

1. I uninstalled everything AlienWare;

2. I restarted and saw AW services _still_ running. I checked where they originated by looking at the service info, turned off the service and manually deleted the executables;

3. Windows Updates insisted on installing AW Command Center, so I followed the hints from  @SysComp

 - Device Manager -> Find your Monitor -> Properties -> Details -> Hardware Ids (mine was MONITOR\DELA208)

 -  Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), then navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Device Installation -> Device Installation Restrictions

 - double-click the Group Policy “Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs”

 - from the pop-up window, select the Enabled radio button, and then click Show under the Options category

 - in the Show contents window, paste the hardware IDs and then click OK

Restart - Windows Update should not longer propose AW Command Center.

And guess what, the display still works even without the dozen of AW services and software. Unbelievable.

As a result of this nonsense, I just advised a friend to *not* buy their new PC from Dell. Well done, Dell. There's a couple of thousand ££s lost because of this behaviour. Plus, I won't be shopping with a company that engages in these tactics.

@Gaps80 I spoke too soon - about a week later and it's back in my list of Windows Updates :(

I tried something else:

This lists the drivers that are seen by Windows Update when looking for updates:

Get-PnpDevice -PresentOnly | Where-Object { $_.FriendlyName -like "*Alienware*" -or $_.Driver  } | Format-Table Status, Class, FriendlyName, InstanceId, Driver  -AutoSize -Wrap

In my case, I saw:

Status Class             FriendlyName                                    InstanceId
------ -----             ------------                                    ----------
OK     SoftwareComponent Alienware Command Center Win32 Component Device SWD\DRIVERENUM\{4A40FAF5-2F1F-446F-81E8-64BD4E240E55}
OK     HIDClass          Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor                     HID\VID_187C&PID_100C\7&27AA9F0C&0&0000

I went back to "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs" and changed my hardware ID to the one matching SoftwareComponent Alienware Command Center - in my case SWD\DRIVERENUM\{4A40FAF5-2F1F-446F-81E8-64BD4E240E55}

Finger crossed it works this time.

@Gaps80 Did it work this time around?

it is still on my list of Windows update. It prevents me from simply clicking « Install all » and instead I have to install individual items (and await completion before installing the next). It’s a pain. Also I cannot enable auto-update or it would come back. I still haven’t found a solid solution.

At this point, I am considering sniffing the app for personal data going out (my IP would suffice) after a windows update that did not get my consent
