AW3225QF, unable to connect 4 screens simultaneously
Hello everyone,
I usually work with 4 screens. But since I replaced my main monitor with an Alienware AW3225QF, I’ve been unable to make it work alongside the other three screens. It works with two others, but not three, otherwise, it goes straight into standby mode.
My previous monitor was an IPS panel that was also 4K. That makes three 4K screens and one Full HD screen. I called Dell technical support and spent nearly two hours with them. After a series of tests (updating the GPU driver, updating the monitor firmware, updating Windows 10, lowering the resolution, reducing the refresh rate, disabling Dolby Vision, swapping cables), nothing worked.
Graphics card used: RTX 3090
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If possible I would try 4 x DP, since you should have enough DP heads now between both cards to supply 4 monitors.
But yes, with a single card it will be near impossible to drive all 4. The AW3225QF does use up a lot of bandwidth due to it's high refresh rate for a 4K display.
The other thing with the AW3225QF is that you cannot disable DSC on it, which means DSC is always on ever at low refresh rates.

Each monitor will use 1 or more internal heads on the video card. How many it uses is based on resolution and refresh rate of the monitor.
With 4 monitors on a regular retail video card you will be pushing it, especially at 4K.

@Vanadiel Yes but no. one out of the three monitors is simply using full hd (1920*1080) resolution. Besides, as i already written, all was working fine with my old main monitor.

The issue will be the internal heads. Don't know which 3090 you use, but with 4 monitors you will be running 3 x DP + 1 x HDMI.
AW3225QF is a 240 Hz 4K monitor. Likely your old monitor was a 4K at a lesser refresh rate.
This monitor use DSC in order to support said combination of refresh rate and resolution over DP 1.4.
You can calculate using this link for each monitor what your required bandwidth requirements are.
32.4 Gbps is the limit for DP 1.4 connections.
AW3225QF will consume 59.72 Gbps, hence why it has to use DSC in order to achieve this over a DP 1.4 connection.
If you old monitor was 4K, 60 Hz you would have consumed 14.93 Gbps.
This is assuming a bit depth of 8 bit. If you use 10 bit you will hit a lower refresh rate on the AW3225QF as it will exceed the capability of DSC.

@Vanadiel I've bypass the issue by plugin an other graphical card, in order to ease the RTX 3090. At least it's working now.

@Vanadiel The RTX 3090 has X3 DP and 1 HDMI. the seconday GPU i've just plug is an 10 years old card with no DP output integrated :-(.
I've already tried to lower the frequency at 60hz, but as you are saying it's probably a matter of DSC.
Anyway, thank you for your time.
