Aurora R7, air to water cooling

Good evening, id like to ask a question regarding cooling.

I wish to move from stock cooler on R7 to a Watercooler,. Ive read a number of posts asking the same but quite old posts, Tech changes so fast and i wondered is there a watercooler available in 2023 that would fit, and with a fixed rpm fan so to avoid bios comparability issues.

The best i saw talked about was the corsair h55 and h60 non rgb version, trouble im having is im in the UK and those 2 particular units seem to be impossible to find for sale new, plenty second hand on ebay, but id prefer a new unused one, so yes is there one or two people may know about that are compatible with the R7.

Thanks for reading.

H60 new condition non-rgb free postage eBay uk

This is the 2018 H60 that has white led and SP fan (600-1700 rpm).

The one I posted for you yesterday is the older 2013 H60 w fan 900-2000 rpm.  make a earnest request to that seller to post to you and you pay for shipping. hope seller may agree.

I believe Corsair has discontinued their 120mm AIO line. This EVGA 120mm AIO seems to be the best replacement, and is supposed to be identical to the Alienware OEM cooler. Any 3-pin fan will run at constant RPM and hopefully avoid the diagnostic startup error. You might as well go with something quiet like NF-S12A FLX  . . . consider a push/pull configuration.

Hi thankyou for the reply.  Unfortunately right now in UK,. Cost of living,. Energy prices,. Sadly im on a tight budget for a while,. Im really looking at a cheaper option around £60,. As the corsair range, they were reasonably cheap here,. Do you have any thoughts on any cheaper that would be compatible,. The Evga is a more pricey range,. Theres so many Aio units avail on Amazon between £40 to £65,. But its knowing if itll work.  Thanks.

Also,. I assumed buying one with sata connector and top fan connector, leaving the cpu fan socket open would avoid the bios issue.  Ive tried always to disable that bios diagnostic thing but it always seems to reappear,. Say after a freeze up and forced reset,. Very annoying bios,. Wish it was more configurable.

Would that work in my system??,  it comes with a lot inc a sata connector, i dont mind buying the corsair fan seperate if needs be to replace the included fan, but it seems a decent kit.

It needs to see the CPU fan. Leaving it open will for sure throw an error.

Thanks, yer was a conflicting post i have read on here that suggested leaving the cpu open,  issue being, if the pump connects to sata or onboard pump socket, how do i get around the cpu socket being open issue.  This is why im so confused about exactly what i need to avoid these issues, right now im starting to think its better just to buy a new air cooler, but its also finding one of them thatd fit thats both silent and efficient at cooling.  really baffled.

Thanks, yes the vrm heatsinks sre in place or at least the big one to left of cpu socket is,. Dont recall if there was another above cpu socket if honest.  Yer its a nightmare,. Sometimes i boot up and it runs great, idles at around 39 in command centre,. Other boots its idle at around 55,. I have replaced thermal paste,. In honesty was only cheap stuff i had,. I did notice when i changed it and cleaned old stuff off on bottom of heatsink there was an indentation,. Little hole,. As if someone had dropped the cooler on something,. I know from experience things like that can affect its cooling performance,. I will look into 3rd party coolers, must be people with r7 that have changed them before.

Since this is an OEM system, you will run into issues trying to install a retail cooler. You will need to find a thread on this forum or on reddit from a user who has an R7 and has changed the cooler to an aftermarket solution.

What you usually end up running into is mounting issues due to the mounting holes not conforming to the proper standard(s). Not sure if this is the case with the R7, but it is the case with the more recent machines.

A way to find the OEM cooler is Ebay.

I am also thinking this R7 needs the VRM heat sinks or it will throw an error for that also. Does your motherboard have the VRM heat sinks installed on it?

Unless you have some very specific reason to switch to liquid cooling, it might be better to leave it as is.

If the cooler is not performing well anymore new thermal paste and a good cleaning should bring it back up to original.

It has been done before, but it require modifications.

R7 cooler mods

Will require to follow the instructions and take things apart. Take lots of pictures before you do anything, if you decide to go down this path.

CPU_FAN header can be left open only if you have a 4-pin connector at PUMP_FAN, like the OEM AIO cooler. This causes a liquid cooled CPU to be detected, so no fan needed. For the infamous Corsair H60, the pump was powered direct from the PSU via SATA. Fortunately, there was a one-wire tach cable that could be connected to CPU_FAN that was sufficient for diagnostics to detect a properly air cooled CPU.

That bequiet! AIO would be problematic because you would need to remove your current motherboard back plate and install the bequiet! back plate . . . not impossible, but probably not worth the effort.

This Corsair AIO is fully compatible with R7.  It is not the new version (2018).
