Aurora R4, EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 upgrade
So I'm upgrading the PSU on my Aurora r4 to an EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 because I bought a 3080 and didn't realize I need three 8 pin cables going to it and the stock PSU in my computer only has two 6 pin cables coming from it so safe to say it's outdated. My question is since the SATA/ power connectors for the hard drives are built into the chassis, am I able to swap those out with cables that I bought and still have the sturdiness of plugging an ssd in and it staying in place or will I have to lay them down in the hard drive bays and run the wires to them letting them dangle loose. I haven't got the PSU in the mail yet but trying to get a game plan and answer all my questions before I start the install and run into needing more cables. Any help is appreciated because I've looked just about everywhere to find info on this subject.

Hi, I think in theory it might work, it will depend on how much 'room' you have to work with in there after all the needed cables are plugged in. And from there, you could mod those (if space requires it) by putting just two SATA heads on, ie reduce the length by cutting, & change the position where head #2 fits on the cable (& put the finish cap on it, found on the very end of head #4)
It's difficult to get the HDD cages out & back in to find all of this out. An alternative might be to ALSO source original EVGA SATA cables that have pass-thru connex on them already, and mod them if needed (ie make it so it has just two heads, positioned where you want them & cut off the slack). That way, u could try the Amazon adaptor + OEM cables, on the same day while the PC is all apart, it's just a thought ...
*Note: here I've modded the original NRHJ9 harness for use w/EVGA G2 P2 T2 etc platforms
*Note to owners: the original CPU / EPS 8pin cable is 34" long, EVGA 8pins tend to be 750mm / 29.5" & so should reach the header, while Corsair/Seasonic etc tend to be 24"-26" & won't reach without an extension, so u may need to source a 6"-8"-12" 8pin extension for it, depending

I might have answered my own question by looking back at the one topic I found on this. When removing the hard drive bays are there plugins behind the SATA/ PSU connectors? If so then using new cables won't be a problem at all.

There's some PSU / SATA connector info here. My 2nd post shows standard SATA vs pass-thru connex, where pass-thru type is needed only for ALX models, give it a look over & see if there's help in that thread Aurora ALX (mid 2010) - PSU Replacement - Issue With HD Cages
And see uTube SATA Power Cable Mod

Hey thanks for the help! Your post was super helpful. I already ordered a pass through data cable on amazon. Do you think this style will work? If so I'm in business.

Awesome thanks so much for the help Cass! You really are a lifesaver when it comes to this. That amazon cable comes in today so I plan on giving it a try. I also ordered some punch in connectors and end caps just incase the amazon cable takes up too much room with the wire. If that's the case I'll probably just cut the original sata power cable from the harness, put a connector and end cap on it, then use the EVGA cable that came with the PSU. I'll update you when I try it out later today.

I got it all switched out and everything is running good. Only thing is my fans are going crazy and won't slow down. Beforehand my PC would do this after I shut down my computer completely or disconnected the AC power from it, but now the fans are stuck on high it seems. Aleinware command center shows them at 55% and that's with nothing open. Is there a fix to this that you know of?

I got the fan issue fixed by downloading an older version of alienware command center. Only problem now is that when my GPU gets to a certain load I get a constant loud BEEEEEEEEP noise and it won't stop until I quit the game. I have no idea what it could be. It's the weirdest thing and I'm not sure what to do.

I apologize for the repeat response on here Cass. Final update. Everything is fixes and working fine. The constant beep noise was from a battery backup I had my computer plugged into. When it'd go under load it would trigger the battery and make that annoying noise. Again, thank you for all your help.
