Aurora R16, Killer E3100 Ethernet Driver slow upload speed

Alienware Aurora R16

Alienware Aurora R16

The default driver for the Killer E3100 ethernet driver drops upload speed to nearly zero. If I set it to another version of the driver not specific to that model ("Killer 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Controller"), there is no problem.

My main issue is that it keeps getting rolled back to the more specific model. I can't stop Windows Update from doing it. It is KILLING the responsiveness of the internet because my requests out are delayed significantly.

I've even used Killer's tool to remove its own software, and it magically reappears.

This is a brand new machine I've had less than a month and this is one of two major issues I have with it.

Hey all - just wanted to update that I ran into this same issue and found this thread. What helped me was actually discovering there is a "Killer Intelligence" app that comes on the system. It's not a driver issue at least for me but a configuration setting.

Opening it up I saw it has default prioritization for download and cuts off just about anything for upload. I just disabled them all and I'm back up to full upload speed for streaming content.

Hope that helps !

Turn these off.

Moved to Alienware forum from the XPS forum.

Might want to provide full h/w and OS spec's as well.

Try the retail killer drivers from Intel, complete package.

@Vanadiel That does not install. It should but doesn't.

@Lacosu

The R16 does not come with an E3100 going by the official manual. It is only available with an Intel AX210 or Intel Killer AX1675x.

R16 Technical Specifications.

Are you sure yours has an E3100 in it?

You could try this link, but I think the drivers are the same: link

Maybe you have some other issue. Try an EPSA test using F12 key during boot, and perform a full hardware diagnostic.

It should also be able to indicate exactly which WiFi hardware you have in your system.

@Vanadiel I thought this would apply to my machine an R8 with E2500 and Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x wireless network adapter.

@Vanadiel I had to disable killer control center, killer network service, and killer analytics service, then reboot. 949.17 mbps download, 940.83 mbps upload!

I too have this problem of crippled upload speed with a 4 month old Dell XPS8960 with a Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Fixed in the short term by uninstalling the Killer network management software and disabling the associated network processes.

Dell support advise that this issue may return with future automatic software / driver updates and that there is no way to anticipate or stop this.

This, potentially recurring, issue with the Killer ethernet controller is absolutely unacceptable on a new computer and Dell need to address and fix this driver issue urgently.

In BIOS, turn OFF Capsule Updates... should stop Windows Update from forcing Driver and others device files (and BIOS) from installing. Not 100% foolproof, some do get installed though.
