Aurora R13, loud fans + fan speed control
Hi guys,
After more than a year of suffering from the noise of the fans (I think the two at the front and loudest the one on the top) that come as factory on my R13, I have decided to remedy it.
Searching the net I have found several options and I have tried them all by software/BIOS and I haven't got any improvement.
Therefore I have several questions to ask you.
1) The first one is through the Alienware Command Center creating a new thermal profile has not improved either.
2) In the BIOS I can't find the option to enable fan control. Does anyone else have the same problem?
3) Trying with HWInfo64 I can't find the fan button on the sensor screen to regulate the RPM speed.
4) I can't improve it with MSI Afterburner either.
What do you recommend? Should I replace the factory ones with Noctua (for example)?
Has anyone been able to control the speed on their R13 without having to replace the stock fans?

I don't have an Aurora R13, but if I did and I were going to change to more quiet fans I would try these Noctua fans
If it turns out that they throw the diagnostic startup error . . . deal with that issue later.

Are there any quiet fans that bring no error message? or forget it?
And isn't it annoying that the BIOS doesn't show me the option that I put in bullet 2?

I am not aware of any specific quiet fans that are error free. It is possible that the linked Noctua fans do not throw the startup error. If they do, for most Dell PC's, if you hold down the ESC key when you press the power button the startup diagnostic test will be averted . . . so no error message. There are other potential resolutions.

I have an old Alienware ALX. It was about $6000 and straight out of the box was loud and fan control seemed to not work.
After about two years of dealing with loud out of control fans and asking for help everywhere, no one could figure it out. Not sure how they make these now, because I'll never spend that much on a PC again, but the solution I found was so easy. Turns out there are two rechargeable AA batteries in my case. I assumed they had something to do with lights but learned that If I just pull one of the AA batteries for 2 min, put it back and power back up the fans go back to the plan I had set instead of just going nuts and making noise. I could reinstall everything ACC windows all of it and the fan speed/noise would not go away but somehow simply pulling that battery for two min made my PC run proper and quieter than ever.
Anytime my PC does a windows build update the problem returns and I once again have to pull that battery and recycle power to whatever it powers to remedy my fans. Not sure If you guys are experiencing the same kind of problem, or if Dell even still use these batteries in the new models, but they were directly affecting my control center.

I bought a Aurora R13 years ago and the fans still scream whenever I open any program. Even old software that would not be putting any stress on the system. So it doesn't seem to happen in response to temperature or need. Setup my system profile to be quiet and it is quiet until I open anything. Also noticed if I I click off the program running to look at a website or something the fans turn off, clicking back to the program they go back to screaming. Have to wear headphones to hear the software above the fans. Wish I could just rip them out. So annoying.

@Cursethedawn_cbaaf7 what are your rig specs? Air or liquid cooled CPU? Can you tell which fan(s) are making all the noise?

@ProfessorW00d Can we consider this as a real solution to solve the issue? How to sort error messages out?

my question is about the first reply you made in this thread. Is it the official solution for the fan noise issue? If yes, which fan reference we have to get from Noctua?

@jotach I am not authorized to offer an "official solution" for Dell. Whatever I post here is my personal suggestion or recommendation. This was my suggestion and disclaimer up-thread, which has a link to a Noctua fan;
I don't have an Aurora R13, but if I did and I were going to change to more quiet fans I would try these Noctua fans
If it turns out that they throw the diagnostic startup error . . . deal with that issue later.
I have also seen people have luck with this fan LINK Arctic P12 Max PWM without the startup error, but they may be less quiet than the Noctua.

Hi All
I finally replaced the 3x fans for a Noctua ones. Very happy about it.
now what it comes to the fan water cooler, I am thinking to do the same and replace for a quiter one. I saw it has different connection. It comes with two cables and different pins layout.
Can someone help me to find an alternative fan on the market to replace it?
It comes with the FOXCONN PVA120G12Z

@jotach The 4-pin 4-wire connector is the PWM power cable. The other cable with the jumpers is for RGB . . . which is optional.

Thanks for your reply. I finally made the replacement to all 4x of Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans.
It is basically the day and the night in terms of how silent and quite they are in comparison with the OEM ones.
My big key question here is: how do avoid no all the error messages when turning on the PC? 1 out of 2 switch on I need to reboot until the message is gone. Is there anyway to go throught this?
