Aurora R13, Dell RTX 4080 connection issue

Alienware Aurora R13

Hello, I have ran into a problem here. I am kind of new to the whole PC gaming world and when it comes to the technical aspect of it I am just a complete noob, but a quick learner. I currently have an Alienware Aurora R13 paired with an i7-12700 and an RTX 3090. I recently purchased from a friend of mine an Dell OEM RTX 4080 which measures 12x5x2 inches and it fits perfectly on my R13. Now, here is where it starts to get complicated for me, I noticed that this Dell 4080 has a different power connector which now features a 16-pin, but the cables that come out my Dell 750W Platinum PSU as you can see on my images only has 4 cables consisting of 2x8-Pin and 2x6-Pin.

I was told I will be needing an adapter but I was not given a link or image to one. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You would also need the 2x6-pin to 1x8-pin adapter so you have 3x8-pin connectors. May sound a bit hairy but it seems to be working well with a 750 watt PSU for the peeps in this thread

OK, great job on the power connectors!

It looks like your are getting some big improvements in those benchmark scores with the RTX 4080 @ 1440p. I saw you post at the r/Alienware community and the discussion about CPU bottleneck. Different usage regimes will result in different bottlenecks, or no bottleneck at all. Note that the user that posted the Warzone photo has a "K" 125 watt CPU, where your processor is 65 watts TDP. That said, it looks like your current CPU may be a good match for your particular usage. I'm just curious how much your Port Royal score would improve if you had a i9-12900K processor. Anyway . . . enjoy you upgraded rig!!

You are at the minimum required PSU power of 750 Watts, and it's an OEM PSU so that could cause issues.

The power adaptor comes with the 4080 card.

The other issue is that this card, while being a Dell OEM, has not been validated in that configuration. This can lead to issues with the UEFI.

You would need to get something like this: power adaptor

However, you only have 2 PCI-E cables and the recommended configuration is using 3. It's not recommended using 2. Just take a look at the config picture to see the difference.

Do you know if there are any ATX 3.0 PSU's compatible with the Aurora R13 out there ?

I think not, because I pretty sure ATX format for PSU's means 150mm tall, 86mm wide, and the length can vary.

Thank you so much. I already ordered the Nvidia 12VHPWR 12+4-Pin Cable and this Dual 6-Pin Female to 8-Pin Male Cable.

And do you know if there are any PSU's compatible with the Aurora R13 that has three 8-Pin cables instead of just two ?

I do not. Even the R15 1350 watt PSU has two 8-pins with piggybacked 6-pins. That would be your best chance on a fit, if you were so inclined. on sale here

And this R15 1350W PSU will work on my R13 ? I read something about this PSU being a 12-pin and the R13 takes 10-pin ?

What you heard is true, but appears to not be a problem according to this thread

thanks, and do you know if my 750W PSU will be enough to power this Dell 4080 ? I currently have a Dell 3090 which has a TDP of 350W and the 750W PSU has been more than enough. This 4080 has a lower TDP of 320W, do you think I can stay at 750W or should I upgrade to the 1000W or the 1350W ? Also my processor is a i7-12700F.

I can't say for certain, but it seems to be working for the users in the thread I linked. On the Dell website you can order an Aurora R15 with an RTX 4080 and 750 watt PSU, so it appears that Dell believes that is sufficient. You can try it out and if the PSU is too weak that 1350 watt unit is only $279. At this point I am just going to mention that you may not see much, if any, performance improvement over your RTX 3090 because your i7-12700F could be a bottleneck.

I understand, and what processor do you recommend for this Dell RTX 4080 ?

The maximum processor compatible with your motherboard is the i9-12900K . . . or possibly i9-12900KS. I'm nor sure if the 'Special' edition is supported. If you are going to the trouble of upgrading your CPU . . . go for the max possible. That is what I would do anyway.

The motherboard on my Aurora R13 is an Z690. Are you sure that the i9-12700 is the maximum ?

what about this link ?

Intel® Z690 Chipset
