Aurora R12, Corsair H60x Elite, setup

Alienware Aurora R12

Alienware Aurora R12

Hi everyone,

the old liquid cooler said goodbye, so I have installed a Corsair H60x Elite instead.

The problem is that the fan speed seems like to be always the same, and I can't control it with no software at all.

And of course, The CPU gets very hot and throttles.

Is that normal?

Any ideas?

@Yurijh If you are talking #19 in the picture, that is the connector for the fan if you have the traditional heatsink and the wrong one.

For liquid cooling you have 22 and 23:

# 22 = fan for the rad

# 23 = pump motor connector

Fan should go to the black connector, pump to the white connector.

What motherboard header is the fan connected to?

@Vanadiel The header is P19

Either CPU_FAN or TOP_FAN headers are both 4-pin and you should be able to set a fan curve in AWCC. The percentages reported in AWCC will be whack because it is geared for a 4000 rpm fan and the Corsair SP Series fan tops @ 1500 rpm. So if AWCC is reporting fan speed of about 38% that is 100% for the Corsair fan. You will most likely get the startup diagnostic error with that weak fan. Did you take the protective plastic cover off of the pre-applied thermal paste when you mounted the cooler?

@Vanadiel I have put the cables exactly as you suggested and now I have a problem at the boot, the BIOS does a test of the "CPU_FAN" and says The CPU FAN failed to respond correctly but the the system starts. Btw I still can't control the fan. Which is the fan I should control with Alienware command center? Top fan?

Ok, I just discovered the 3 pin cable was the pump and the 4 was the fan. So I switched 22 and 23 and now I can control the "Top fan" in Alienware Command Center.

But the problem at the boot still remains, can it be solvable?

@ProfessorW00d thanks, now that I can control the top fan, I have a better understanding of the percentages. Btw I must consider that ~38% is ~100% also when drawing the curve? Or I can make the curve as I can reach 100%?

@Yurijh   I don't have any PWM fans to test the fan curves, so you will have to experiment to see what works for you. Regarding the startup error; the 3-pin connector is not sufficient to signal the BIOS that the CPU has liquid cooling, so it looks for the CPU fan. If you move that 3-pin pump power connector to the CPU_FAN header then BIOS will detect an air cooled CPU and no startup error for lacking a CPU fan. I still think the Corsair top fan will throw the startup error.

@Yurijh

My pump is plugged into the CPU fan pins.  I set the CPU fan to 100%, and my CPU is much cooler, and the error went away.

@Vanadiel hi im getting a problem I install h60 cooling in my aurora r12 . I put the pump in the right plug same with the fan

Pre boot system send me an error

I try to connect the pump in the fan cpu still no working,  I downloaded the software corsair and doesn't detect the fan

You know a solution I didn't connect the rgb cause you can't not see them any way

@Hot fingers7    post some good photos of the inside of your R12 so we can see what you have going on.

@Hot fingers7   The fan percentages in AWCC will not be accurate. Those are based off of the OEM fans, which have a top speed of perhaps 4400 rpm. So if your new Corsair fans have a top speed of 1600 rpm, then a fan reading in AWCC of 36% would mean your Corsair fan is running at 100% . . . 1600/4400 = 36%
