Area-51 R2, DVD Drive Ejects Disks By Itself
Alienware Area-51 R2
My Area-51 R2 has started to eject DVD's as soon as I put them in. I ran a DVD cleaner and reinstalled the Eject Driver. Do I need to install a new drive? Are they still available?

Yes that is a bad drive. I have one just like that. You can replace it w slot loading slim drive. The Dell P/N are here:
Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Reader. 340D7
Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Reader. X6P9P
Optical Drive : Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-R OM, DVD/RW, CD-RW). 5CTFV

Yes that DP/N 340D7 is the odd for A51 R2 desktop. Dell desktop and laptop now both use slim odd. Long gone are the days of full height odd for desktop. review the service manual for remove/replace odd steps.

Thanks for all the info. Got a new drive on eBay and installed it pretty easily. Works great!

Will all these fit the Area-51 R2? I can't match up the part numbers. So far I bought the Dell external DVD drive, which works well.

They list as laptop drives. I have a desktop. Still OK?
