PDC watchdog timeout

1) From last month, once a week, I get an error message "PDC watchdog timeout". Notebook restarts and I lose all my work! How to fix this?

2) Another thing is, I can't get internet access until I turn off VPN by McAfee.
I have to turn off VPN to access internet without any break.
Is it risky? What can be alternative?
