Computer won't boot up with an external hard drive connected.

Hi, 

My computer has a problem that is when I boot up my computer with an external hard drive connected, the BIOS freezes. When I disconnect it, then go in BIOS and reconnect it, it freezes. But when I load Windows then connect it, it works fine. 

My computer is an XPS 8700

The BIOS version is A14,

The external hard drive is a WD My Book 8TB (Model No. WDBBGB0080HBK-NESN)
