G3 3579 - Unable to install Windows 10 after SDD SATA replacement
I tried to replace the original HDD by a 1 Tb SDD SATA (Crucial CT1000MX500SDD1), mostly to get better performance. After replacing the HDD following the service manual instructions, I verified that the new SDD drive is actually recognized in the BIOS.
I downloaded a windows 10 recovery image for my laptop, using the service code, and got it extracted on a 32G USB stick. Booting on USB worked well, and I could initiate the installation process. Few minutes after the first reboot, as the installation continued, I got a bsod with the following code:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
failed element: iaStorAC.sys
SDD drive seems to be working fine. Diagnostics from the recovery usb stick did not find any issue.
Booting the laptop on a live USB linux drive, I could get access to the SSD drive, create and format partitions, with no errors.
I tried windows installation multiple times with the same result. I tried using different USB sticks, same result.
Upgraded the BIOS to 1.16.0 didn't resolve the problem.
It looks like Dell's windows 10 image uses a driver that does not support SDD SATA devices.
Did anyone face the same issue? Is there anything else I should try?
Thanks.
