XPS Laptop with Discrete GPU and Thunderbolt Dock?
Hi,
I'm looking into purchasing a new XPS laptop and want to know if I get a discrete GPU will it use the discrete GPU when connected to a WD19 or WD22TB4 dock? My monitor is a Dell U2414Hb
I'm considering the XPS 14 Laptop with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050, 6 GB GDDR6, 30W
Thanks in advance

There is no mention in the system manual of direct video output -- and historically that's been the province of high end GPUs in the G-series and Alienware systems. I suspect the answer is no.
The other issue will be the slim design of this system and the limited thermal management it affords. If you really need the discrete GPU, this system will be a compromise since it won't be able to avoid throttling with use of the nVidia GPU at even moderate levels. The GPU will also drain the battery very quickly.
If you really need the GPU I'd rethink getting it in a system this thin, and consider purchasing a physically larger system that has the hardware to keep the GPU cool.

@ejn63 Thanks for the feedback. I'm not trying to play very graphic intense games (Mostly just Heroes of the Storm and possibly a little bit of non-competitive Counter Strike 2) but wanted to understand if it would be worth it to go with a discrete GPU or not.
My personal computer is an old XPS 15 9500 with nVidia GTX 1650Ti (Svc Tag 3GJR893) but the motherboard is starting to die and am weighing what would be best to replace it with as I want to be able to use the same dock as I use for my work computer (Precision 5560 nVidia T1200).
Do you know if the Precision with 5560 nVidia T1200 uses the discrete graphcs when going through the dock?
Thanks in advance
