XPS 9510 + WD19DC lost USB speed

Hi guys,

Suddenly i lost connection to my external USB SSD drive connected to my WD19DC. When I check USBDEVIEW it shows that all my ports are USB 2.01! Last week I updated laptop and WD19DC BIOS, not sure if this issue appeared after that, but my ssd drive worked well before update. Laptop bios downgrade did not help, disconnecting power from WD19DC did not help.

Interestingly, monitor and iphone work as they should being connected to the Dock, but how it is possible if video traffic requires USB 3.0 speed. USB 3.0 SSD drive does not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, problem solved.

Using USBDeview I turned on to show me disconnected devices, next I disconnect the WD19DC, selected all disconnected USB devices in the list (lazy to find out which belongs to the dock) and clicked Uninstall Selected Devices. Reboot the laptop and connect the dock back. It bacame USB 3.0 again.
Not sure if the initial dock FW update created a glitch, but all is good now.

One interesting thing to notice, when it behaved as 2.0 device there was no realtek usb eth card available (which is usb 3.0 inside the dock) and any usb 3.0 devices connected to the dock were not recognizable also.

Hey,

make sure you are using only one cable from the WD19DC. The dual connector should only be used with Dell Precision Notebooks.

Have you tried downgrading the Docking Station firmware to the previous version?

Is it the same behavior, when you directly connect the USB drive to your computer?

Hi @Florian555 and thanks for reply.
Yes, I know about cables, and I tried to downgrade the FW but it does not allow. When I run previous version FW executable and click Update button, it does its thing, says all is updated but it does not downgrade it.

I did not try to connect the drive directly, I don't have usb-c to usb-a adapter for now. Will try later for sure
