XPS 9510 - OCP fuse 2 fault

XPS 9510 - OCP fuse 2 fault

Hi all, I have flashing LED error 1 amber 4 white that is not documented in the service manual (not good).

BIOS says that yesterday an event was logged: "OCP fuse 2 fault" (OCP is overcurrent protection).

No information again in the service manual nor specifically googling for it.

This OCP fuse 2 seems to refer to the fuse to protect USB Type-C port.

If it helps there is also CAPS LOCK LED stuck on, but Caps Lock works although stuck lit up.

Thanks in advance!

Overcurrent protection means there's a short circuit on the mainboard.  It could be the USB port itself (or another one), or it could be a bad capacitor or inductor somewhere on the board.  The only sure repair is a replacement mainboard -- otherwise, you'll need to find the short circuit and replace the faulty component(s), and hope that the short didn't drive enough voltage through the CPU or GPU to destroy it.

@ejn63 Thank you for your input!  Replacing the mainboard for only one faulty capacitor or inductor seems not to be a good idea as it costs $$$$.  I am surprised by its quality because I just bought it only 2.5 years ago.

If you have a microscope and the tools to do the diagnosis and repair, it may be a path forward.  If you don't, the labor cost alone will be a sizable portion of the cost of a board, without any guarantee of success.  The cost of the parts may be low, but there's no guarantee that replacing them will solve the problem.  Proceed so advised.
