XPS 9380 - screen black (even after replacement), touchscreen working, external monitor ok?

Hi,

I've updated and reinstalled display drivers, graphics driver, tried hard resets, tried a newer screen (thinking it might be the connections or a failed panel) and I get excatly the same outcome?

Black screen but the touchscreen is working.

External monitor is working fine but no other display is found?  f8 doesn't work (or rather it does toggle between options but black screen on laptop).

I've ran out of options what can I try now?

I appear to get the laptop to let me see the boot menu on the external monitor.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Gareth

If two displays have shown the same fault, it's the mainboard that's the issue - not the panel.  Is there any image at all on the internal panel, however faint?  Use a bright flashlight to check.

@ejn63

Thanks for the reply.  There is a faint image there (much to my surprise).

It's probably a bad power supply to the backlight -- unfortunately, not repairable short of a mainboard replacement.

The boards are $150-300 depending on CPU and memory, which isn't far off the total value of a working, used system so keep that in mind if you decide on a repair.  If you have to pay for labor to replace a board, the total cost will easily exceed the system value.

Thanks for the reply/help.

I agree - probably time to buy a new second hand unit (at least I can swap over my battery/screen HDD etc )
