XPS 9320 -- trackpad issues

My trackpad is malfunctioning and making using my laptop difficult. The haptic feedback "freezes"  and pressing down gets stuck and starts "dragging". I got the track pad replaced today by a technician, but the issue is even worse than before. He replaced the entire palm rest area.

Any ideas? I'm running Linux and managed to upgrade firmwares via fwupdmgr.
