XPS 17 Slow Internet download, USB Ethernet adapter not working
Dell XPS 17 9720, W11Home
The machine will not connect to internet when using a Sabrent (NT-SS5G) 5gb ethernet adapter, I get the "Ethernet * doesn't have a valid ip configuration" error, this dongle uses the Aquantia drivers. A Sabrent (NTS25G) branded 2.5gb adapter, using Realtek drivers will connect, but only downloads @ 350, 1300+ is the norm on other machines, including an Inspiron 15 running W11pro.
Using wireless, the download is about the same, routinely other devices-including an Inspiron get 500/600. I've done all sorts of things, tried different drivers, from Dell, Sabrent, Aquantia, etc., and have run ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew netsh winsock reset. I've uninstalled Killer software, disabled Fast Startup and a few other things.
I did online chat with Dell Support, the person tried to help, nothing worked.
Any ideas on getting the 5gb dongle to work, and get my download speeds where they should be.?

After doing a clean install (not the Dell copy) of Windows Home, the 2.5gb adapter is working properly. The 5gb adapter still won't work at all. WiFi is also working properly... Something Dellish was probably interfering, not sure about the 5gb adapter but I'm good to go now.

Are you aware of the fact that your model doesn't have ethernet? Wireless is the only connection

Yes. If you had read the whole post, you would have noticed I'm talking about a USB C ethernet adapter, as well as wifi speed.

While I am looking for a description of that external ethernet device, could you tell us what you are plugging it into?
Hopefully, your descriptions of the devices will be enough, but we may need full model numbers.

It looks like it should work. They recommend a USB 3.0 or higher port and Cat 6 or above cable for maximum performance.
What happens after you plug it in? If you have drivers for the same OEM version, they may be conflicting if not fully removed.
What does it show in the Device Manager? If you are not aware, you can paste a picture in your replies.
Is this where you are getting the drivers?

Perchance you do not have Dell Smartbyte installed and running do you? I am not sure that the app is still used but in the past it was quite the problem maker as far as speed was concerned. And you may have tried the suggestions on the drivereasy page but just in case I am providing the link here.

When I plug it in/unplug Windows 'acknowledges'. In device manager/events, there are some 'failure to migrate/initiation/etc' errors listed. I'm not at the machine right now. Did try the drivers from that site, as well as from several others-including Dell. It does not have Smartbyte, I have removed everything Dell/bloatware...
