XPS 17 9710/Weird wifi card behavior

I verified a strange behavior when using the XPS 17 9710 while connected to the internet via wifi. I use an external Samsung 870 EVO ssd connected to the laptop via a USBC adapter (Startech) to transfer files. When I connect the SSD to the laptop through the right thunderbolt port, the wifi connection drops almost to zero, making browsing and other connection dependent tasks very slow. However, when connecting the SSD to the laptop through the left thunderbolt port the wifi connection stays normal and unaffected.

It seems as if using the right thunderbolt port to connect the external SSD interferes either with the internal wifi card and/or antenna.

Any explanation? Thanks
