XPS 16 USB-C portable monitor issues, no PD and DP alt mode simultaneously?

Hi,

Wondering if anyone else has ran into an issue with their XPS (2026) laptops and portable monitors?

I have a espresso 15 portable display which I use as a second monitor when I'm working away. All other laptops I've had to this point have had no issue running 1 USB-C cable between it and the display for it to function. However with the XPS 16, I am finding that to get it to work, I have to supply a second USB-C cable for power? Is this expected or some sort of USB-C/thunderbolt controller issue?

If using a new XPS 16, then it should be the DA16260. All of the USB C ports on this model are Thunderbolt 4 so they all support power delivery per the Thunderbolt spec. Within the BIOS, I'd try toggling the Video/Power on USB C Option under Integrated Devices. By default this option is disabled but it may currently be enabled. This makes the port only support video or only support power. If switching between the two doesn't make any change, then I'd update the BIOS, graphics, and thunderbolt chipset drivers. Could also try a different external display and known good USB C cables to see if the issue follows.
