XPS 16 9640 Laptop frequent Blue Screen of Death
I bought a XPS 16 9640 laptop with Core 7 and Nvidia 4060 in January for my daughter who is starting Engineering at University in September. She started using it for high school but went back to using her old Chromebook after frequent BSDs for a couple months. I call Dell Support and we reinstalled Win 11 from Bios and that unfortunately did not fix the issue.
My daughter tried to work through the frequent BSDs for another month while doing her online University Engineering prep coursework but she had to give up again. Again I tried reinstalling Win 11 and again it did nothing to improve the situation. I called Dell support back and they said send it in and they would evaluate the hardware. The laptop passed all the hardware tests in Bios multiple times so I am doubtful that Dell is going to find something wrong with the hardware especially given the number of complaints about XPS BSDs in the various forums. We are leaving soon on summer vacation in the area of her University before dropping her off the last week of August so waiting to see if Dell finds and fixes a potential hardware issue is not an option at this point in time. We decided to buy her an Asus Nvidia 4060 Win 11 laptop instead which seems to be rock solid so far while she finishes her online prep courses.
I have been using personal computers of all types since the 1980s and I am a IT professional. I have owned and worked on a number of Dell computers over the years and I have never seen anything like this. Based on what I read on various forums its most likely a driver issue of some kind. My daughter does not have time to wait around to see if/when Dell fixes the issue in the fall, she needs a stable Win 11 computer for University now. Looks like I will put Ubuntu on the XPS 16 to try to bring some stability to it for now after I get it back from Dell for my personal use. Too bad we are passed the Dell return time period, I am never buying another Dell product ever again.

What is the BSOD message that appears on the system?
To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.
Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

Unfortunately my daughter was never able to capture any error codes. It would be nice if there was an “OK” button or similar that would wait until you selected it before rebooting to give people a chance to evaluate whats going on. In my over 40 years of using personal computers I have never seen a new computer crash so frequently, let alone a “premium” product. Dell needs to do a much much better job of testing their hardware with the OS and drivers before they choose to release it if they want to compete for Apple customers.
