XPS 16 9640 Conversion to Linux
Over many years I heard about the excellence of Dell laptops. In late 2024 I bought the most expensive laptop of my life. It cost me over NOK 40,000 which is about £3,000. In the first months it gave me nothing but trouble and in the end the only things which were not changed were the outer case and the SSD. I moved back to the UK last year and being fed up with paying Microsoft for everything they could imagine. I decided to change to Linux. My old HP laptop worked perfectly on Linux. Everything worked without any problem at all. The same was actually true of the Dell, with the exception of the Intel IPU6 camera. This is still not working. Dell Technical Support UK rudely told me that they would support my Dell on Microsoft or not at all. Del Sweden, who had my original support contract, were at least polite, but regretted there was nothing they could do. Dell sell the same laptop with Linux installed. So it is clear they have packages for every peripheral they include. But they will not provide them, even for money. So I thought I would share with you my solution to driving the Intel IPU6 on this most advanced laptop.
