XPS 15 touchpad doesn't work very well
Hello,
I have XPS 15 laptop, right after I had bought it the touchpad broke and a technician had to come to my home and change the hardware. Since last year the touch pad does not work most of the times (either cursor disappears or cursor doesn't respond to touchpad). If I attach external mouse then things work fine.
Can someone please help me with the issue? (I have tried uninstalling/installing drivers for HID* drivers)
Thank you,
Saurabh

What model XPS (9550, 9520, etc.)? Have you checked the condition of the battery (just under the touchpad)?

It is 9575. I am not sure how to check the condition of the battery, it has got weaker over 5 years which is expected but what does that have to do with the touchpad?

If the battery begins to swell at end of life, the first sign is often an unresponsive touchpad, which is located right above the battery. Any signs of swelling and the battery should be removed and disposed of outside your home or office immediately.
Service manual has the instructions for accessing the battery.

OK thanks for the info. No, the battery looks to be in good condition physically.

The part is inexpensive to replace, but the disassembly process is not trivial.

Thank you.
The most annoying part is that this problem existed in the notebook when I received it from the factory, twice they asked me to send the laptop back to factory to fix the issue and finally it was fixed. Now as expected after 3-4 years of use the same issue resurfaced. As a premium product Dell should have replaced the faulty product at the start but they refused to do so.
I will never buy a Dell product again and will never recommend to anyone I know!
