XPS 15 constantly spontaneously shuts off. Why?
My XPS 15 9550 laptop constantly spontaneously shuts down. I can't figure out why. The problem started slowly. It would suddenly shut down while I was working on it, then started shutting down soon after startup. Now I can't even turn on the computer anymore. It starts up, I see the Dell logo, it then shuts down. Sometimes I'm able to log on but then it shuts off.
I originally thought it had something to do with the fact that I've updated the OS to Windows 11 23H2 but that is not the issue.
I have noticed that this only happens when I'm using the battery. If the computer is plugged into AC it works fine. But I know this isn't a battery problem as (1) BIOS shows the battery to be working fine and fully charged, and (2) I can also open up the BIOS (F2) or the Recovery startup (F8) and the computer doesn't shut off. It only does it when I try and log into Windows.
Any ideas what's going on?

What are the design and current charge capacities of the battery?
Open a command prompt with administrator privilege and type
powercfg /batteryreport

Thanks for that suggestion. I hadn't looked at that.
Battery installed: Dell 1P6KD57, design capacity: 83,995 mWh, full charge capacity: 63,726 mWh.
Capacity goes up to 63,726 mWh when computer fully charged at 100%.
So (in my opinion) it does look like the battery is fine. The fact that the computer stays on when in Bios or recovery boot also suggests the problem is not due to the battery.

I'm having the same problem with my XPS15. I'm plugged into AC power and the battery appears fully charged.
Any comments on how I can fix this?
THanks,
Vince

The problem in my case was due to a defective battery. For a while it worked if the laptop was plugged into AC power, even showed that the battery was charging or was fully charged. But then over time this didn't even work. No battery OR AC power operation. In my case the problem was was resolved by installing a new battery. Hope that helps.
