XPS 15 9570- TPM and PTT missing/ Not Found

Hi All

I've been through all the posts here and tried everything but the result is the same-'Not Found'.

I have the latest BIOS and it's set to UEFI but the same whether secure boot is on or off.

This started happening after Windows 11 Pro update and issues a warning at pre-boot.

BIOS has no reference to TPM or PTT anywhere.

Any new suggestions welcome, thanks, joe

Unplug the system and disconnect the main battery from the system board.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.

Then reassemble and power up -- check again.

I had this issue today an hour ago on my XPS 15 9570 with a new motherboard with the i9-8950HK from early June 2025 when my original i7-8750H motherboard died on May 28, 2025 due to the capacitor burning down and also burn whatever was right under the F5 key.

Before this, I held down power button for 25 seconds to reset the RTC CMOS which did not fix the problem.

The way I fixed it didn't involve opening up the computer.

I saw in the XPS 15 9560 thread here:
https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps/xps-15-9560-alert-tpm-device-is-not-detected/647f8477f4ccf8a8de357c51?commentId=6605e821d478b1269a47496c

Where it says:
1) Unplug AC Adapter cable, wait 1 minute
2) Hold down Ctrl+ESC while plugging the AC Adapter back in and system should turn on itself
3) It will show a BIOS Recovery Menu
4) Select reset bios back to default

In my case, I didn't do step 4 because I tried to memorize the post and instead select Cancel and it fixed it.  #4 might be the correct choice.

This brought back the missing TPM setting under Security in the BIOS.

@Almighty1

YES!! Your method worked.  I have been inside of my XPS-15-9570 many times and replaced the fans.  I just ordered a new laptop from Dell and I am waiting for it to be built.  The XPS15 needed rebooted and it came up with the TPM error screen.  I did all of the BIOS resets but the category rung was missing.  I was dreading pulling the SSD M.2 and transferring the files.  Thank you.

@Penguin Puck - Glad to hear it worked and you are very welcome. It seems one can really choose anything in step 4 as probably it was more important to only do up to step 3 since as I mentioned I cancelled on step 4.  I had been inside the XPS 15 9570 a few times and replaced the battery, fans, keyboard twice, thermal paste, memory to 64GB from 32GB and will be replacing the SSD from 1TB to 4TB in the next few days.  I am curious, have you actually seen the Thunderbolt controller showed up in Device Manager?  I haven't after over 6 years.  I don't remember if it ever did out of the box with Windows 10 when new.

So it seems for this issue, when it happens, the TPM option is missing in the Security section of the BIOS but when it works, the TPM option is back in the Security section of the BIOS.

@Almighty1 I do not have any devices that would utilize the Thunderbolt feature (that I know of).  I did not find Thunderbolt in my Device Manager.

* I did see some rungs in my BIOS:

** BIOS -> System Configuration -> Thunderbolt Adapter Configuration = Thunderbolt = TRUE (Enable Boot = FALSE & Enable Pre-Boot = FALSE)

** BIOS -> System Configuration -> Thunderbolt Auto Switch = Auto Switch TRUE

You might see what your BIOS has and play with those settings.

Good luck,

Penguin

@Penguin Puck - Thanks.  I have the same settings in the BIOS and I don't have a Thunderbolt device either, I am just trying to find out if the Thunderbolt controller actually works or not.  I thought it was similar to USB where the controller would still show up in Device Manager even if one didn't have any USB devices to plug in.  I guess I will need to find a Thunderbolt device and plug it in and see if it shows up or not.

@Penguin Puck - I managed to get the Thunderbolt to show up in Device Manager under System Devices which was only because I updating the Thunderbolt firmware from v33.00 (latest Dell XPS 15 9570) to v46.00 (latest Dell Precision 15 5530) as it appears to need to power the Thunderbolt controller to do it, the XPS 15 9570 and Precision 15 5530 shares the same motherboard so the BIOS and everything is the same.  The XPS 15 9570 is End of life while the Precision 15 5530 appears to still be updated as the BIOS is up to v1.42.00 which includes all security fixes that the XPS 15 9570's latest v1.27.00 BIOS does not.  The Intel MEI firmware which is part of the BIOS on the XPS 15 9570 has a security hole.  TPM 2.0 firmware is 7.2.2.0 v1 on the XPS 15 9570 version but 7.2.2.0 v3 on the Precision 15 5530.  So basically the TPM, BIOS and Thunderbolt firmwares are newer on the Precision 15 5530 as it is still being updated.

@Almighty1 Is this the driver area that you used? https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/precision-15-5530-laptop/drivers?

If not, could you provide a link to the file source?

Did you ONLY do this driver:

Version: 4.46.143.009, A04|Older versions

Download Type: Firmware

File Name: Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM46_WFH7F_A04_4.46.143.009.exe

File size: 5.47 MB

@Penguin Puck - Yes, that's the correct link.  Then click on "Select Drivers" under "Find Drivers", for the OS, pick Windows 10 and Windows 11 and BIOS.  And left tab should be All Precision 5530.   I only did that one for now.  Will be doing the TPM and the BIOS later as I am trying to update my other software before using anything that requires rebooting and then image my 1TB SSD and restore on a new Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSD in a USB Enclosure and then swap the drives.  Those seem to be the only three as those are firmware that is flashed.  Everything else is just drivers which can be gotten from station-drivers for more up to date versions.  I'll post about the TPM 2.0 firmware and BIOS 1.42.0 later as see this on reddit:

Thank you for the confirmation.  I look forward to your further implementation of the firmware and drivers.  I was looking for newer S/W for the MaxxAudioPro.  The manufacturer's website has zero S/W.  They tell me to contact Dell.  Thank you again.

MaxxAudioPro doesn't appear to have been updated.  I forgot to mention that this is actually my new motherboard for the XPS 15 9570 with the i9-8750HK which I had since June 10, 2025 as the original motherboard was acting weird as it would reboot anywhere from a few seconds to minutes since March 28, 2025 or so counting from the spinning circle at the POST screen and then eventually I got the orange/white blinking light which said CPU failure on May 28, 2025.  Turns out it was a capacitor on the top side of the motherboard which would be facing down as the XPS 15  9570 has the motherboard upside down that burned and also burned something else on the other side that melted a bit of the backside of the F5 key on the keyboard so the width of the burn was like half the F5 key.  That was a i7-8750H.  Both the old and new motherboards have the nVidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti with the 4GB RAM but the old motherboard would freeze the machine in Google Chrome and Microsoft as if it was pushing some big load when going to byutv.org which works fine with Firefox, my external mouse software would also make the mouse slow down many times per hour.  The new motherboard doesn't have either of these problems.  I only know my BIOS was updated to 1.27.0 but I am not sure what version is the latest on the Dell XPS 15 9570 as far as Dell's firmware downloads are concerned as I did not update the TPM 2.0 firmware and the Intel Thunderbolt firmware so other than the BIOS, this was what my new motherboard came with.  These are all using the newer versions from the Dell Precision 5330 downloads:

1) BIOS - from v1.27.0 which is the latest available for the Dell 15 9570 to v1.42.0 from Dell Precision 5530, this includes security fixes including the Intel Management Engine and the system still identifies as a Dell XPS 15 9570
even though the Dell Precision 5530 supposedly shares the same motherboard with the only difference being the Dell XPS 15 9570 uses a nVidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti GPU while the Dell Precision 5530 uses a nVidia Quadro GPU so one has to wonder how the BIOS determines what model the system is:

2) TPM 2.0 Firmware:

The Dell XPS 15 9570 version is v7.2.2.0, A00 named DELLTPM_NPCT750_7.2.2.0_64_v1.exe at
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=j5gww&oscode=wt64a&productcode=xps-15-9570-laptop

The Dell Precision 5530 version is v7.2.2.0, A02 DELLTPM_NPCT750_7.2.2.0_64_v3.exe at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=419wn&oscode=wt64a&productcode=precision-15-5530-laptop which includes Dell Security Advisory DSA-2023-362 fix - https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000217981/dsa-2023-362-security-update-for-dell-dock-firmware-and-dell-client-platform-for-an-improper-link-resolution-vulnerability
so while both are v7.2.2.0, the Precision 5530 has a versions newer from the A00 vs A02 and v1 vs v3 and may be the reason for the TPM Device not detected issue people experience with various Dell desktop and notebooks, never heard anyone with the problem on a Precision 5530 yet.

3) Intel Thunderbolt Controller firmware:
Dell XPS 15 9570 has the latest as Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM46_D86T2_A03_4.46.143.004.exe
while Dell Precision 5530 has the latest as Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM46_WFH7F_A04_4.46.143.009.exe at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=wfh7f&oscode=wt64a&productcode=precision-15-5530-laptop
which contains security updates as disclosed in the Dell Security Advisory DSA-2023-362 - https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000208398/dsa-2023-062-dell-emc-networking-security-update-for-a-third-party-bios-vulnerability

Those are the only things that requires flashing to the hardware and not OS level drivers.

I am using newer than Dell provided drivers for the Intel 630 UHD GPU, nVidia GeForce GTX 1050i, Realtek UAD Audio, Intel Serial IO, Intel Smart Sound Technology, Intel Management Engine, Intel RAID, Intel Chipset Drivers, Realtek Card Reader.

I had been trying to post these links in another thread but the comment never shows after it's submitted so I will just post it this way and one can just copy and paste it in their browsers:

One thing with Dell's downloads is that you cannot rely on just the version number alone, the A number can change and so can the filename.  Here is a good example and this is in the Dell XPS 15 9570 download area:

On June 25, 2025, I downloaded:
Dell-Alienware-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_CGK18_WIN64_5.5.0_A00.EXE
On June 30, 2025, the same entry got replaced with:
Dell-Alienware-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_D8MGW_WIN64_5.5.0_A00.EXE
while the version and A number is the same, the 5 digit alphanumeric code is different and the filesizes are not the same so obviously something changed or else the file would not be revised.
