XPS 15 9570 running current Windows 11 updates - cannot print over wireless to HP printers

Historically I have had issues with this Dell laptop off and on again printing to a wireless HP printer. Both my laptop and the printer are on the same wireless network. Whenever there was a windows update I often saw the problem recur, but then after a couple of PC restarts it would work again.  Now I cannot print to this printer at all.  I can print to this same printer from my iPhone so I know the printer works fine.   I hooked up another HP printer as a test, and I cannot print to it over wireless either.  I have tried uninstalling the printers from Windows, restarting and adding them back.  Still no luck to either HP printer.

Any suggestions?

Hi

I know this is daft, but I will still post it.....

Sometimes the HP printer spooler goes over the internet to HP and back to your printer (not directly connected to your laptop) and then HP can sell/send you replacement cartridges and other services etc etc.

Therefore I would find out the route that it takes, gleaning what I can from the iphone.

######

What to use on iPhone

Install a network tool app from the App Store that supports traceroute, such as a general networking utility or a ping/traceroute app. iOS itself does not provide a built-in terminal for tracert, so the app is the practical route.

How to trace to the printer

  1. Find the printer’s IP address on the HP printer display or by printing a network/configuration page.

  2. Open your traceroute-capable app on the iPhone.

  3. Enter the printer’s IP address, not its name.

  4. Run traceroute or trace route.

  5. Review the hops; on a home network, a direct local printer usually shows very few or no meaningful routed hops because the printer is on the same LAN.

If the printer is not found

If the iPhone cannot discover the HP printer, first confirm both devices are connected to the same Wi‑Fi network. HP’s guidance for iOS printing says the iPhone and printer must be on the same network for AirPrint discovery to work.  If needed, try the HP Smart app, which is designed to connect to and manage HP printers from iPhone.

Better troubleshooting option

For printer connectivity problems, ping to the printer’s IP is often more useful than traceroute. If ping works but printing does not, the issue is usually AirPrint, discovery, or printer service configuration rather than basic network reachability.

Would you like the exact steps for a specific iPhone traceroute app, or help finding your HP printer’s IP address?

So if you get the IP address of the printer (and the steps taken by the traceroute) try a ping from your laptop to your iPhone, printer, router etc.

Just so you know, the conduit that serves the iPhone printing functionality is separate from the LAN printing functionality. I notice you strangely don't even mention which HP printers you have.

On Windows, are you using the printer's whole HP driver-and-App suite?

 - or -

Are you just using the Windows printing functionality ... where is auto-detects new Printers (local or network) and installs the drivers for you ... WSD Windows Printer (Web Services for Devices) printer auto-config?
