XPS 15 9560, new battery not identified

XPS 15 9560

XPS 15 9560

Dear all,

I got a new battery for my Dell XPS 15 9560 from the official Dell website. (Parts & repairs on dell.com). I got the battery and exchanged my old one, as it was at 1/5 of the original capacity. The problem I have now is that the battery is not recognized as a Dell battery and will not charge. I get an error message every time I boot the laptop. I already tried the following.

-Installed new drivers

-updated bios / firmware

-install Windows updates

-run hardware scans with DellSupportAssistant

It doesn't make sense to me, as I ordered the battery from the Dell website, and therefor it should be a Dell battery!

Let me know if you guys can help me out with some new ideas.

Was the original battery recognized, even if it wasn't holding sufficient charge?

Is the AC adapter recognized (F2 at powerup to check)?  If it is not, the battery will not charge (but the system will run, so you must check).

@ejn63 yes the original battery was recognized. I just checked the AC adapter and it is recognized. It is litterly just the battery... It says in the same F2 system that the battery is not a dell battery.

@ejn63 When I boot the computer i get the following warning message:

Warning: The primary battery is not identifiable and this system will not charge this battery pack. Using an incompatible battery or a third party battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion.

Only Dell batteries should be used in Dell computers, and Dell batteries can only be purchased through Dell. You can order an authentic battery at www.dell.com/batteries

Unplug the system, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Then reconnect the battery and check again.

If the battery is still not detected, contact Dell for a warranty replacement.  That is the correct battery for your system.

@ejn63 So if I send back the new battery and get a replacement, will I have the same issues again or not? Because the battery I got technically works fine except for recognition by the system.

If the battery is the issue, you should not have the same problem.  If you do have the same problem with a different battery, you have a mainboard issue.

Just installed a brand new OEM battery from dell on my XPS 9560 and having the exact same issue. Updated bios to 1.24 and checked for all updates. will not charge the battery despite the AC adapter being fine. I can't imagine multiple people have mainboard issues when it was previously working fine with an older battery. Old batteries capacity was really bad so purchased a new one to have better run time.

I put the old battery back in and it charges and works fine just has low battery. Why are these brand new OEM batteries from Dell not recognized?

This is a 7-8 year old system model -- any truly "new" OEM batteries are almost certainly at least a couple of years old in reality.

If this is an OEM battery, there will be a Dell part number on it, usually starting with DP/N or CN.  What is that alphanumeric string (in it will be the date of manufacture)?

I am running into the same problems as you with my Dell XPS 15 9560. The OEM battery on the Dell website clearly states that it is compatible with the XPS 15 9560 but my laptop is saying the battery is not recognized as a Dell battery and will not charge. It seems like multiple other people are having this issue as well. My old battery is still recognized by the laptop. Were you able to resolve this issue?

No, this system does not have hybrid power -- the AC adapter is used alone when the system s plugged in.  With a system this old, is it clean internally and have the thermal pads been replaced?
