XPS 15 9520 - Any solution for distortions/stutters with native speakers

I've tried as many of the online tips that I can find. However, I still get random distortions and stutters using the native speakers, especially on Zoom calls, and sometimes while watching YouTube, or playing games. The problem really only happens using the native speakers, and not while using my bluetooth pixel buds.

I've tried updating drivers, disabling audio enhancements through both Windows settings, MaxxAudio Pro, and on the legacy control panel settings. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both Realtek and MaxxAudio Pro. The thing that seemed to help somewhat was disabling "exclusive mode" in the legacy sound settings. But still seems to happen quite a bit.

I know that this is a known issue, but I'd like to know if anyone has any outside-the-box ideas.

Thanks!

Strange.

The Speakers on my XPS-15 (9520) seem fine.

We often use this laptop for Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings (with on-board camera, mics, and speakers).

This laptop is still running the initial Dell software load-out (with Windows-Updates on top of that over the years).

I'm not seeing anything about known issues for this model regarding audio or speaker issues. I'd recommend running the preboot diagnostic to see if you're looking at a hardware issue:

  1. Shutdown the unit
  2. Hold down the Fn key and the power button together
  3. Press the ESC key to abort the quick scan that should have started
  4. Click on Advanced Test and select the speaker icon only
  5. Start a test. A series of loud beeps should be heard

If you get distortion with this speaker test, then you would be looking at a hardware issue and replacing them would be the way to go. If the distortion is not present, and you're certain the issue is software related, then maybe try reinstalling Zoom and the other applications? If push came to shove, then reinstalling Windows may end up becoming something to test with as well.

@DELL-Daniel V

The test ran successfully. No distortions on the hardware test. I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling Zoom, to see if that changes anything and I'll report back. Thanks!
